Amazon has been naughty... Try this version and see if it works? There were some changes. Any questions in discussions there, please.

{shrug} I'm still using Sats' 10023 as of last night. Works fine so far, even with the new version of K4W (1022326).

You're probably fine unless you're starting from scratch with Sats tool.

As my Oasis 3 just got the update, I'm starting new here and it's very confusing. I know there are limits to what I can be told, but should I bother trying to figure it out with the newest Kindle app for windows (Windows 11) and the latest 10.0.29 from Sats? Is it currently working? Thanks.
Edit: Answered my own question. It worked. Last edited by Desertway; 08-16-2026 at 01:41 PM. |

Is there a guide on how to use Sats fork floating around out there?

Actually, using the current DeDRM with the current Kindle app is very very easy. It's just we are not allowed to give detailed instruction here.

Confirmed that there is some good advice available to those who are willing to look. Cheers.

I've been reading on Kindle since the Kindle II (2008?). Tell me why you think Kobo is the better reading experience. I am loath to change after all this time, but I think I might be persuaded. Since the format changed, I have been able to convert from KFX-ZIP to epub using the new Kindle for Windows and running the files downloaded with Epubor Ultimate. It seems that Amazon must have made yet another change because the files from Kindle for Windows can no longer be converted to epub. Confession time... most of my Kindle library of 92,325 books is made up of Kindle freebies.

Personally, I would dump Epubor since most of what they supply is 'borrowed' from open source programs without bothering to follow the license terms.
Check discussion link here for a ongoing discussion on using Sats' tools for deDRMing and importing Kindle files. As for why I think a Kobo is a superior reading experience? Kobo ereaders are open so no need to jailbreak/root them. Want to install a older firmware version? No problem. Just avoid installing a firmware version older than the ereader. Want to use KOReader or Plato? A simple install away. Want finer control over font weight? Easily install your fonts? Don't enjoy minimum left/right margins that look like you are reading a MMPB wasting a bit chuck of your screen space? Want to sync ebooks from a public library that uses OverDrive to your Kobo OTA? Kobo does follow the ebook CSS so there are times when it can be a pain where a Kindle might override the CSS. Relatively rare and generally easy to fix. OTOH, Kobo does not sync sideloaded books which for some people is important. Though most of the people I've seen with that as a pro for Amazon don't own multiple Kindles or Amazon apps so I'm not sure why they consider it an advantage. |

For me (as a former Kindle user) Kobos are much better because
1) they have more options, and you can add even more with patching/editing the configuration file (no jailbreak needed) 2) you can go back to an older firmware version, and not update unless you want to (via the patch that makes the device ask your consent before updating) 3) Seamless integration with calibre - automatic metadata management, automatic collections, series and subtitle support, book synopsis on the device, and more. About the only drawback is the lack of OTA syncing for sideloaded books. As I didn't use that even with Kindles, it doesn't matter to me. |
