What impact might the new ByteBooks system from Adobe have on adding Books to Calibre?

Remember, Calibre can store/and send books with DRM. You may not be able to convert to another format.
You will be just be limited to the registered devices for reading.

If you use the ACSM Input plugin, just make sure you have a backup of your calibre config and you'll be good to go with your ePub.

I checked out some books from Overdrive yesterday. I can't retrieve them directly on my Kobo libra because it's a different library than my normal one. In the past I've been able to go through Adobe and transfer them to the Kobo that way. I went through the whole transition thing and have now connected my old Adobe account to the new Bytebooks.

But if I try to send a book (in ADE) to the Kobo it says I don't have permission, even though I have reauthorized both the computer and the Kobo in ADE. So I tried in Calibre after reading this, have the ACSM plugin on it, sent the books over but when I try to open them on the Kobo it says I don't have permission. Also, neither of them were imported with covers and when I had Calibre search for covers it could not find them, even though both books were published in the last 10 years. I downloaded covers manually from Goodreads and applied them in Calibre, then re-sent the books but the covers are still not showing. But I can't open them anyway so covers don't matter.

Have I missed a step somewhere? To import into calibre (latest edition) I added both the epub file and the acsm file in case it needed both. But only transferred the epub file onto the Kobo. Does it need the acsm file separately transferred as well? I don't recall having to do that in the past using ADE.

The ADE I'm using is their latest one; I had the old one but lost it in a hard drive reformat and since I saw they were moving to Bytebooks I didn't try finding the old one.

Is the Adobe ID used by ADE the same as the one used by the ACSM plugin? You can import the ePub or the .ascm file but since, if all is setup correctly, the same ebook would be downloaded, you only need one of them.

Can you open the ePub in ADE? That tells us ADE has the correct key.

Did you reconfigure the DeDRM plugin to use the new ID? Use the Import button at the bottom of it's configuration screen to import the new key.

If you open the imported ePub (either from ADE or using the ACSM plugin) using calibre's ebook-viewer, does it have DRM removed so you can view it.

I'm using ACSM Input version 0.1.0 and there is no button at the bottom of the config window to input a new key. Where do I find this?

Jon, Please read the following lines carefully:

For the ACSM plugin, you first need to remove (ctrl-shift-D) the old activation and then you will see the import options screen after reopening the configuration dialogue.

I put the new Adobe ID determined by the bytebook transition process, which is the email that was associated with ADE originally, into both the ACSM and the DeDRM plugins.

Quote:

No. When i just tried it, it said I had no permission. I thought maybe since I'd downloaded the books before doing the ADE to bytebook transition, it was looking for the old Adobe ID. So I deleted both books and redownloaded them and added to ADE. However, then when I tried to open them, it said This Computer needs to be authorized with a Vendor ID to open {title}. To start the authorization process click Continue

Then on the next page it asks for the Adobe ID and password associated with this item. When I fill in the email address and password, it then says
The vendor account you entered is not associated with the item you are trying to open
But I've double checked that the email is the same one previously used with Adobe, and is now associated with bytebooks, and have the correct password. Even made sure the email is the same one I use with that library in case that made any difference.

Quote:

I see where to import this but don't know where to find the key itself. I did put in the new adobe id as above

Quote:

can't open in ADE and I've deleted the ones I imported to Calibre earlier since they weren't opening on the Kobo. I think now the problem is back up with ADE still.

Thank you for giving me several concrete steps to check. If you have any ideas why the ADE error is happening please let me know. Otherwise I think I will have to try support at bytebooks?
