Nickelmenu on 5.x firmware

I'm aware that Nickelmenu currently doesn't work with firmware 5.x. However, on reddit I've noticed that the European models of the Libra Color, Clara Color, Clara BW are now delivered with firmware 5.x.

So my question: Isn't it now a good time to update Nickelmenu so that it supports Qt6?

The main issue I can see is coming up with a new toolchain that can be used to compile Nickel mods.

The upside is that FW 5.x appears to be built using Yocto, so the community can build a similar toolchain using Yocto.

The downside is that it is Yocto...

The other issue is coming up with a way to persist Nickel mods, because the update mechanism has changed a lot.

For now it's still super easy to just turn off the accessibility options for the device to downgrade to a 4.45.x firmware but at some point that will probably no longer be possible.

If you actually want to downgrade to 4.x. While 5.x has many issues, the new renderer has a couple of modern features that I like. Some fancy layout tricks will work fine in 5.x, but not in 4.x.

DRM free epubs are now handled by a JavaScript engine on top of Chromium. RMSDK is only used for Adobe DRM encumbered file. And I've not investigated the version info.

How good is the typesetting on v5.x with DRM-Free ePub?

You can also download the files directly via browser, but I couldn't be arsed to navigate there on the crappy Kobo browser .

As the latest Tolino update also handles .acsm downloads on the device itself, I'd assume that Kobo will do the same either with the current firmware or the next update. I can test if you have testfiles somewhere.

Currently it's bad. The reader ignores most css right now.
