Trying to catch up on a few of the most important threads, like this one.

Actually, he says he doesn't want one. He's gotten the impression that they don't work well for houses that aren't already clean. (That really would rule out our house!)

But now I'm back to trying to figure out what to get him.

I guess. I seriously doubt I could afford it. Plus, I like pedaling.

I like it when the Muffin Man watches cooking shows. I often get something tasty afterwards that I've never had before.

However, that's a thing of the past, now that we've canceled the cable TV service.

Hm... perhaps I'll get him a cookbook or two for his birthday....

Ok, I'm going to bed for a while (it's 2:30 am here). Tomorrow later today I really need to get those last two papers done so I can take a break! (The one I just finished was 11 pages and was supposed to be 5. I have GOT to learn to stop. )

@nekokami - if you were thinking of a roomba, was it for the cleaning potential or the interesting technology potential? If it was the technology you should probably check out the following: Robot stuff

well if anybody is interested, i STILL want a roomba !!! y'all could get it as a group gift, i wouldn't mind. (neko, cook books sound like a good present instead for the muffin man...)

i want it for the cleaning potential (i would need the super heavy-duty cat-hair killer version) and also for the interesting technology potential (not that i would probably hack it at all. i just like knowing i could, if i wanted to).

I think you've been hanging around DixieGal to long. You're starting to talk like her!

I would need the same version, only to pick up Sheltie hair. When we were considering getting a Sheltie, someone told me that the shedding wasn't really that big of a problem. Let me tell you, it is a BIG problem! I asked the groomers about having him shaved for the summer. She just looked at me in horror! He's got a very beautiful coat and coloring.

hm, you think that's why ? could be... but actually i just love the word "y'all". not only is it a funny word (and i mean that in the best possible way, all y'all southerners !!), it's also very useful. in french we have two forms of "you" : tu is singular / familiar, and vous is plural / formal. english used also to have two forms with the same function, thee and thou, but those died out. i can't understand why ; i think it's really useful to have a second person pronoun that is explicitly plural.

(hm... maybe we should start a campaign to bring back thee and thou !!!)

i've frequently been tempted to shave both of my cats and just put little sweaters on them in winter. it would make cleaning my house SOOO much easier. not to mention the eternal problem of cat fur on my clothes, arg ! that drives me crazy !!! both my cats seem to have made their primary goal in life the production of as much fur as possible, which they will disseminate in the greatest possible quantity, everywhere. they're just like fur factories.

I want a Karcher RC 3000 RoboCleaner, I was going to say I was -waiting- for a robotic vacuum that self-emptied, because everytime I looked none were out. But now I see Karcher has made one (apparently for years)! That was the first thing that I thought when I saw these little roombas. I'm sorry, but for a civilization that has advanced to making self-emptying litter boxes for pets to come up with a new electronic pet that you have to change it's diaper regularly is insane!

Not sure on the price, the only sites that list a price say it is discontinued, but their site is still up... Perhaps they've simply lost distributors? (They say it was $1500)

I, too, would like a robotized cleaner for my home. So I'm thinking of asking for one of these for my birthday. Those darn daleks just seem to pop up out of nowhere and I'd like to deal with them without a lot of fuss or muss.
