Loses place, history and bookmarks fail

It's been a long time since I posted on any forum here, so hope I'm getting this right. First, let me say I love justRead. However, an issue has popped up with the latest updates (maybe the last 2?). It's weird. When I go out of the app on my iPad, most of the time when I switch back to justRead, it pops up at the beginning of the chapter I was reading. If I had the correct page bookmarked, the bookmark will not work--nothing happens. If I try to use History to go to the correct page, nothing happens, History doesn't work either. I'd say this happens about 90% of the time. Once in awhile, things work as they should.

I have found a curious workaround. If I leave iPad orientation unlocked (I read only in portrait mode) and switch to landscape, History and Bookmarks now work and I can locate my last page read. Turn the iPad to portrait and I'm in business (sometimes the location is a page off, but that seems understandable). History and Bookmarks are then working, at least until I pop out to check email or whatever.

Just to see what happens, I have tried starting in Landscape. Same thing happens. I have to switch it to Portrait to enable History and Bookmarks. FWIW, this doesn't seem to be a problem on my iPhone, but I haven't updated the OS in awhile (iPhone 11, ver 26.3)

This is definitely becoming a major aggravation!

Hello Rezn8r, will look at it right away. From the description it seems like bookmarks and position made in landscape do not work in portrait and vice versa, right?

Also, doers anyone else please have this problem.
I use iphone and ipad combined for reading every day and did not noticed this.

Hello Rezn8r, I found out the exact bug and the exact steps to reproduce it, so yes this affects only ipad and will be fixed in upcoming 4.0.
Sorry for a stupid bug.

That is fantastic! Thanks for looking into this. Just for clarifications, although it seems you have identified the issue, bookmarks and histories created in one orientation work just fine in the other--once the app is "reset" by changing orientation. Hope that makes sense. In fact, I discovered last night that I could get things working just from tilting the iPad to change orientation and bringing it immediately back to portrait. I'm guessing you've already figured that out at this point.

Hello Rezn8r, it was linked to iPad only, because iPad does not have manual switch to orientation and can have two columns to display text. So after every foregrounding the app it has to check the actual state (as you can rotate the device in the meantime) to properly show it all. And in this, there was a bug.

Bug happen. Software is just ridiculously (but necessarily) complex.

About that complexity. I am now only fixing bugs and improving what can be improved (like loading of books from Calibre to be sub-1 second no matter the size of Calibre library) and after nothing will be reported in, say, 14 days, I am already planning to attack this complexity.
It grew and grew by requests from users and surely there are ways how to compact the UI and/or UX to be simpler, so this is my main goal for August. To be the same, but simpler.

User interface is a whole new level of complexity.

I just meant the number of lines of code required for even simple software.

Oh, my bad, misread it. I tend to reduce codebase for every release (the end work before testing) and sometimes this is even the place, where bugs creep in. But it is something I am doing for last 15 years, so this is a habit.
But simplifying UI and UX is something I see as much harder. I am planning to proceed by incremental steps and already started a little (unification of sheets everywhere, unification of buttons everywhere, etc.).
