ADE relies upon Intel code for the Mac version so, unless Adobe updates ADE, it will stop working on M-series Macs when Apple no longer provides an option for a Rosetta install. This is expected sometime after macOS 27 Golden Gate is released later this year.

The solution is to use calibre with the ACSM Input plugin. That way you will still be able to download your DRM infected ePub/PDF. If you have DeDRM, you can disinfect your ePub/PDF with just adding the ACSM file to your calibre library. The advantage to this is that you don't have an extra copy sitting in your ADE library, the ACSM file is automatically deleted upon successful download to calibre and the DRM is removed.

I use this setup and it works very well.

I doubt it will change. If it does, there will be a lot of people who will no longer be able to read DRM infected ePub/PDF. There are a lot devices out there that have some version RMSDK that will never be updated. If the DRM is changed, it will be a big deal.

Remember the huge backlash when Adobe updated the DRM?

I have a new MacBook and tried to authorize ADE on the new machine. I created a ByteBook account using the same email address I used on the old machine, and was told that I had successfully authorized the new machine. But I can not download Kobo books on the new machine. I keep getting an E_LIC_ALREADY_FULFILLED_BY_ANOTHER_USER error,

you are trying to open an eBook license (.acsm file) using a different Adobe ID or account than the one originally used to download the book. It also happens if you downloaded the book without signing into an Adobe ID first.

Since this is the first time I tried to download the book I assume the first part does not apply, but since I am signed into an Adobe ID (ie, a ByteBooks ID) the second does not seem to apply either. I guess that this means I will have to stop using Kobo as a book source if I can not get this resolved.

It is extremely frustrating.

I suspect the issue is that you created a new ByteBooks account using your email address instead of using the Already Have An Adobe Account button to transfer your old account. If you created a new ID on Bytebooks, it will have a different internal urn:uuid collection than your old Adobe ID even if you used the same email address when creating it.

If you have already used an .acsm file with the old registration, it will not work with the new registration and you will have to download a new .acsm file to use with it.

Edit: At least that was what worked for me since my old Adobe ID used an email account that has not existed since 2004. It was easier to create a new account with a valid email address than to jump through the hoops to authorize the old ID at ByteBooks.

1. Create new ID at Bytebooks
2. Open ADE under Windows and enter ctrl-shift-D to deauthorize.
3. Re-authorize with new ID. Test by downloading an .acsm file from library.
4. Open calibre and then Preferences =>Plugins=>ACSM=>Customize. Use ctrl-shift-D to deauthorize
5. Close and re-open ACSM customization dialog
6. Click copy authorization from existing ADE account.
7. Test using the same library .acsm file.
8. Connect Kobo ereader, delete activation.xml from the adobe-digital-editions folder.
9. Close and re-open ADE. Authorize Kobo ereader device. Copy library book from ADE to Kobo.
10. Safely eject and the book opens on the Kobo.

No success so far. I have created a new email address and tried to register a new ByteBooks account, but have never received the OTP code needed to complete the registration.

I have sent an email to what I assume is support at Byte Books asking for further information, but nothing so far.
