W. H.Wright (1888 – 1939)) wrote under the pseudonym S.S. Van Dine 12 detective 'Murder Cases' in the first half of the twentieth century (1926 - 1939). These novels were quite popular at that time. Radio plays were made of a few of them and the actor William Powell starred in film versions of four of these murder cases. S.S. Van Dine was for a while one of the best-selling authors in the United States.

His writing style nowadays feels a bit old-fashioned , so this collection is only suitable for the most ardent detective story enthusiasts. If you are not: don't bother.
