Green & Deadly Things by Jenn Lyons is $3 in the US (Kobo, Amazon)
Quote:
For fans of S.A. Chakraborty, Robin Hobb, and Martha Wells's Witch King, a page-turning standalone fantasy of necromancy and magical mayhem from Jenn Lyons, the acclaimed author of The Ruin of Kings.

Centuries ago, necromancy almost destroyed the world. That’s how history remembers it.

History remembers it wrong.

Mathaiik has trained all his life to join the sacred order of the Idallik Knights, charged with defending their world from the forces of necromancy. Only vestiges of that cursed magic remain, nothing like the fabled days of the Grim Lords, the undead wizards who once nearly destroyed the world.

But when an even stranger kind of monster begins to wake, the Knights quickly prove powerless to stop them. Whole forests are coming alive and devouring anyone so foolish as to trespass, as if the land itself has turned upon humanity.

It’s a good thing, then, that the Grim Lords were never truly destroyed. One of their number sleeps below the Knights' very fortress. And when an army of twisted tree monsters attacks the young initiates in his charge, Math decides to do the unthinkable: he wakes her up.

This is only the beginning of his problems. Because said necromancer, Kaiataris, knows something history has forgotten. The threat of this wild magic is part of a cycle that has repeated countless times–life after death, chaos after order. And if she and Math can’t find a new way to balance the scales, this won't just be the end of the world as they know it, but the end of all life, everywhere.

I was just made aware of it listening to old episodes of Clash of the Type-Ins, so set up a notification.

The Book of Fallen Leaves by A. S. Tamaki is $3 in the US (Kobo, Amazon)
Quote:
Shogun meets Game of Thrones in the blockbuster epic fantasy event of the year. A. S. Tamaki weaves a powerful tale of ambition, vengeance and sacrifice in this masterful fantasy retelling of an ancient Samurai saga, packed with memorable characters, stunning worldbuilding and epic adventure.

Sen Hoshiakari is an exiled prince of a clan that lost everything in his father's failed rebellion. Deprived of his birthright, Sen is determined to restore his family's lands and honor at any cost. Rui is a peasant girl who saved Sen's life on the night his family were put to the sword. But now, she is adrift and unsure of her place in the world, not knowing that the gods themselves have plans for her …

As civil war throws the empire into chaos, and demons seek vengeance on the living, Sen and Rui must fight for both their clan and their shared future … But vengeance demands a bloody price.

A Palace Near the Wind (Natural Engines #1) by Ai Jiang is $3 in the US (Kobo, Amazon)
Was on my wishlist.
Quote:
From a rising-star author, winner of the both the Bram Stoker® and Nebula Awards, a richly inventive, brutal and beautiful science-fantasy novella. A story of family, loss, oppression and rebellion that will stay with you long after the final page. For readers of Nghi Vo’s The Empress of Salt and Fortune, Neon Yang’s The Black Tides of Heaven and Kritika H. Rao’s The Surviving Sky.

Liu Lufeng is the eldest princess of the Feng royalty and, bound by duty and tradition, the next bride to the human king. With their bark faces, arms of braided branches and hair of needle threads, the Feng people live within nature, nurtured by the land. But they exist under the constant threat of human expansion, and the negotiation of bridewealth is the only way to stop— or at least delay—the destruction of their home. Come her wedding day, Lufeng plans to kill the king and finally put an end to the marriages.

Trapped in the great human palace in the run-up to the union, Lufeng begins to uncover the truth about her people’s origins and realizes they will never be safe from the humans. So she must learn to let go of duty and tradition, choose her allies carefully, and risk the unknown in order to free her family and shape her own fate.

From a rising-star author, winner of the both the Bram Stoker® and Nebula Awards, a richly inventive, brutal and beautiful story of family, loss, oppression and rebellion.

There is this " The Science Fiction Collection" on Kobo, @$0.99 (2,545 Pages), also on Amazon.com @$0.87.
Also "The Ultimate Sci Fi Collection" (omg, 11,077 Pages) by the same editor ( Blackmore Dennett ) seems at 0.99 both on Kobo and on Amazon (H.G. Wells, Jules Verne, Edgar Allan Poe, [...]).

I was searching as discovered that there is a screenplay novel by Ben Bova, for "THX 1138" (within George Lucas), but it ain't there.

These types of assembled collections of public domain titles show up quite often. It's a good bagain if one is not overly familiar with the titles. Or if one simply wants to own and/or re-read them.

For additional titles from this PUBLISHER, type this in the SEARCH BOX below. Don't forget the quotes:

The Amazon price is incorrect. It's $0.99.

I like the cover. What I don't like is that the included story from Marion Zimmer Bradley. She is a nasty horrible person and should never be read again. I cannot recommend this book to anyone unless that one story is removed.

Please contact the publisher and request the MZB story be removed. Here is the URL to contact the publisher. https://www.streetlib.com/company/contact
I'm not here to re-litigate MZB, but this kind of objection feels more performative than useful, IMO.

The novel in question--"Year of the Big Thaw"--I found on Project Gutenberg (https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/28650), which suggests to me that it has entered the Public Domain in some regions. My guess is that most of the works in this collection are public domain, that's why the book is so huge, and accordingly I'm guessing that none of the authors are receiving a cent from the sale of this book.

Moreover, let's say MZB's estate is in fact receiving whatever fraction of a penny she would likely get from the book's sale. MZB herself is long deceased, and the publishers of her backlist have committed that any proceeds from her book sales would be donated to charity.

In which case: what does removing her book from this collection accomplish exactly? You are not rewarding or "enriching" MZB in any way by purchasing this collection.

I don't think there's much value in posting "deals" for suspicious $1 anthologies that just collect things in the public domain (or close to it).

This particular anthology has been $1 for a long time.

Ah, yes: Fletcher Pratt

It's good to see the reissue of The Blue Star, by Fletcher Pratt (who was also a collaborator with L. Sprague de Camp) on a series of novels.

The Blue Star was also one of the titles in the famed Ballantine Adult Fantasy Series, edited by Lin Carter. I have an almost complete set of these, and all are in practically mint condition.
