And, as mentioned by others, it's still supported (in that it can still be used on Amazon). To me, not getting new updates for a Kindle would be a feature. Seems like every update limits some feature even more in the Kindle world. Last edited by rcentros; 07-19-2026 at 08:34 AM. |

"the best Kindle ever made" is PW5.

@j.p.s Yeah, and it happened twice to me
![]() But hardware wise to me it's the best Kindle model: screen size + warm light + significantly faster charging + ridiculously looong battery life (standby battery drain in deep sleep is totally unreal). As for software no MTP crap & no forced firmware update check during initial setup wizard. |

For me the best Kindle ever made hardware-wise was the Oasis 3 (form factor + buttons + warm light + reasonably good screen + reasonably fast processor). I didn't really like the Voyage, it had no warm light and the ergonomics weren't right for me. The only advantage was the sharp screen, but it wasn't enough, so I sold mine. Forget all the Paperwhites, wrong form factor and the lack of buttons = no deal. I don't care about battery life, a few days is quite enough for me.
As to the software, no Kindle software is to my taste, I much prefer the Kobo software. I'm not a big fan of KOReader either. |

To me once your opened a book to read Kobo's software sucks more than Kindle's. And there are issues like letter and word spacing + stupid, incorrect hyphenation breaks (because of em-dash and other punctuation characters being counted as part of the word) with kepub? renderer that no amount of patches can truly fix.
So I simply use KOReader on both Kindle and Kobo. |

I've bought 7 ereaders since my Voyage died (PW4, Oasis 3, Nook GL 7.8, Nook GL+, Nook GL4, Kindle Colorsoft SE, Kobo Clara Colour) and I would trade any of them for a brand new Voyage.

Heh. That shows how different people's tastes are. I wouldn't want a Voyage even for free; mine gathered dust on the shelf before I finally sold it. Ditto for other Kindles and Nooks.

KOReader is fine for a few 100 books or broken ebooks where you need to fiddle with settings. It's terrible for browsing and menus. Better to fix the ebook in Calibre or Sigil. I had it on Kobo and still have it on an Android eink. It had an advantage for cropping PDFs till Kobo did that per document. Still some value for bad scans. I bought a DXG when Amazon had a sale (after PW3 was out and we had one) for PDF. Worst ereader I ever bought. Hardly used. Too slow & low resolution for PDFs. Chronic Mobi worse than Mobipocket in 2005. The PW3 was better for PDFs! The Oasis 2 wasn't bad but not as good as the original Libra, so I passed it on. I only use epub, not kepub on Kobo. |

Whereas for me, a ebook with justification is an annoying collection of rivers, uneven word spacing and too <expletive deleted> many hyphens. This is why I prefer left justification until ebook readers have the software and CPU power to handle micro-justification without making page turns glacial.
