For whatever reason, Kobo decided to rely on the extra Kobo spans in the WebKit renderer for position management, so that isn't possible. You can simply rename your book to book.kepub.epub, and it will load in the WebKit engine, but things like bookmarks and highlights won't work, because your book is missing the extra Kobo spans. I just run all my books through kepubify before I transfer them to remedy this.

The Android and iOS apps are different critters from the ereader app (and from each other). One item to remember is that the spans are used for locating notes/annotations. If you simply rename an ePub to .kepub.epub, you will get the same zoom, etc. but you will lose annotations/notes.

It seems the download link at https://help.kobo.com/hc/en-us/artic...your-PC-or-Mac no longer works. At least it doesn't for me - all I get is some XML.

I'm running 4.38.23081 - is that the latest version? Winget is telling me there's a 4.38.23360 but can't download it as it seems to be using the same link that no longer works.

Interestingly enough the download link for Mac desktop still seems to work.

thats also the version i have. download was working fine as of yesterday, so this is a very recent change

The error looks to me like the file vanished from whatever Amazon S3 bucket they were serving it from. Seems more unintentional to me than a deliberate change.

Yes, working for me again too. Must have been a temporary problem.

Edit: And I can confirm it's currently linking to v4.38.23360.
