I think that comes from real life etiquette as opposed to internet etiquette and the desire not to overshare.

I let this run for a bit, but it's really not a discussion of ebook reading. Hence moved to the Feedback forum.

Very likely other childless people. For me, it was the point that in the time that only 8 other people out of the 12,000 who clicked on the "I have read and agree" button had read far enough to see that.
I am rather definitely an outlier in that the first time I meet a set of terms and conditions, I will read through them. This is how I ended up in a Future Shop with an open CD case and wanting to return the contents. "But you can't return an opened software package!" "The terms and conditions say that any code I produce using this package is the property of the creators of the software not me" and those same terms and conditions say that "If you do not agree with these terms and conditions, you should return the software to the place of purchase for a full refund". So I did not agree and I am here for my full refund. I ended up going through multiple levels of staff, putting the install media into one of their computers so they could read the relevant items in the T&C and generally being as obnoxious as possible. They finally broke down and gave me the refund. |

Terms and conditions based on USA laws usually break EU/NL laws so badly, I can ignore them.

I almost never read any TOS, unless I have a problem. Then I read them before contacting support or staff.

I don't read the TOS. I know if what needs support or is broken has been mistreated or has an accident before I contact support.
One time I had to call support because the computer monitor wasn't working. The support person went through his checklist of things to do. I told him I've alread done all of that. He said hr still has to read it out. It was a big heavy monitor. They had to send box with packing so I could send it in. Fortunately, I was my mother's monitor and she was on vacation so we didn't have to get another monitor. Now if my monitor packs up, I'm not monitorless thanks to TVs and TeamVewer. |

I am not sure that is always the case, in fact I am struggling to think of that actually being the case. Just because you live in the NL, that doesn't make the jurisdiction for the contract the NL. I am pretty sure it is not only standard but valid to put in a clause saying the an international contract is according to country x's laws. Even in a case where the terms and conditions are invalid, there is a good chance that the company will try to hold you to them. In same cases it will be relatively easy for them to do that.
