I did not ask for instructions. I asked for clarification since one poster typed in the wrong version number. I just learned from other posts that I should delete the person's name and anything else that is irrelevant. Thank you! I finally found the "new reply" button. It is not under every karma button, but it is under the last karma button, to the left of the number of pages. Slowly, I am learning. Still need to decide which one to use.

No. You should simply not use the "Quote" button to create a reply if there's nothing that poster said that you wish to directly address. Then there's nothing to delete. Only use the quote button when you wish to include quoted material in your post. For everything else use New Reply or Quick Reply.

@pypeke because your computer has a TPM 1.2, you can install Windows 11 with a registry hack on Windows 10.

Can it really be "bricked"? I ask because I too often see the term "bricked" used rather loosly.

After an update, your PC can refuse to boot to anything other than a SOD. That is close enough to bricked to call it that, IMNSHO.

Remember that you are doing something that Microsoft does not support nor recommend.

I have never read about or seen a video on YT about Windows 11 being bricked on an unsupported system.

However, that hack to install Windows 11 with TPM 1.2 was given out by Microsoft. So why would they brick the computer when they gave out the info to allow it? That's not going to happen.

What is SOD? I want to assume Screen Of Death, but a quick google didn't turn up anything?

So if the brick happened, there wouldn't be some way to install an alternate OS, or boot to the original OS the PC shipped with? If you had a clone of the disc(s) (before the brick) you wouldn't be able to swap in the clone.

I haven't been paying close attention to Windows developments, so thank you for the information.

People tend to accept window defaults. This may include encrypting the disk. Then if an MS update prevents the boot, you can't access the disk contents, only wipe & install.

For most people getting a laptop stolen is a worse disaster than the thief being able to read the disc (and may only check for interesting images, then wipe), so mostly people should not encrypt.
Everyone should have non-cloud backups and keep a copy with a friend or relative or solicitor etc. Most don't.

Also if laptop / TPM dies the SSD / HDD may not ever be readable on another machine or replacement board (you did back up a recovery key on paper? The Cloud isn't as safe! I've recovered encrypted data of Win10 for a client on Linux using ext USB adaptor and a key on the cloud that should have been on paper. A PhD thesis and no backups!).

There are maybe people than need the TPM security and disk encryption. For most it makes them more vulnerable to system or data loss.

Don't leave a laptop in a car or unattended is more useful advice than use TPM or Win11 security.

Don't take advice from Mac, Win11, Linux or BSD fans without a cup of salt and research of the downsides.

In that case, we restored from a backup and disabled Windows Updates.
