you have some security software on your system that is detecting the network access and killing calibre. reboot in safe mode and see if it reproduces.

If you're not running Windows Defender, turn off the AV you are using and try again. If it works, dump what you are using and run Windows Defender.
But to be honest, you don't need anything other then Windows Defender. |

in safe mode it works
For anyone that stumbles across this. Heres the solution Calibre was not added to exception on windows firewall. Once i did that it works fine |

and it started crashing again.
Given that i dont have any additional security programs installed apart from the essential ones that came with the computer ie alienware commandcenter and dell support assist. Is there a way to pinpoint which program is interfering |

The thing to do is disable all software that runs when the system starts until you find which program is causing the problem.

After much wrangling managed to fix it
namely I had to create a outbound rule in windows firewall for calibre and also on the inbound rule under andanced to set enable edge traversal to defer to application |

If you are using a router with firewall (and almost all do have) rather than a direct mobile / cell modem, then totally disable the stupid Windows Firewall, and a load of other services that are default and shouldn't be. MS has been clueless on Services for 30 years. Online search (not AI) for you particular windows will list all the stupid stuff that should be off.
Disable uPNP on any router/firewall. |
