Tools Sanctuary - Jailbreak for ANY Kindle model, FW 5.16.4 - 5.18.3 (inclusive)

Sanctuary is a new browser-based jailbreak by Ava, Alysa, and me (sparklerfish).

REQUIREMENTS:

A Kindle (any model) on firmware version 5.16.4 - 5.18.3 inclusive (5.16.5 may specifically be an exception due to a WebKit browser experiment; if you are on this version and the website/id doesn't load properly, please update to the next jailbreakable firmware to ensure you are on a Chromium browser)
A wifi connection
Patience :)

NOTES:

Registration is not required; this works on blacklisted kindles.
The entire jailbreak process is on-device, no computer required.
The entire process DOES require wifi, so ensure your storage is filled to prevent updates!

GUIDE:

Open the Kindle web browser and navigate to http://sanctuary.skyvincent.com (ensure you have typed "http"; "https" will not work).
Wait for port scanning to conclude (maybe grab a coffee or a snack; if you're unlucky with your randomly-assigned port and on an older Kindle this could take 15+ minutes).
When the id appears, copy it exactly into the text box below. Any 0's you see are zeroes (it is hex). You do not need to manually capitalize letters; they will be automatically capitalized for you. And yes, this is the only way to do this. Blame CORS.
Click "Connect". If nothing happens, verify that you have typed the id exactly correctly.
Wait as the webpage performs some operations and downloads some files. You will see several popups informing you that files were downloaded. Just click ok on these and keep chillin' until the downloads complete and the page changes to the "Downloads done!" message.
Close the browser, open the Kindle 3-dots menu and go to Settings -> Help -> Get Started
You'll see some text/logs onscreen as the script runs and probably an "Application Error" popup. This is fine, just click ok.
Go back to your homescreen and you should see a "JAILBROKEN" document in your library verifying that everything succeeded!

This jailbreak leverages the latest jb.sh from KindleModding, so you do not need to manually install the hotfix or rename OTA binaries after jailbreaking; it is all handled for you along with the jailbreak script.

Kindle Scribe 1st gen, firmware 5.16.6.1, blacklisted. Sanctuary gives me wrong scrollbar + 'enable JavaScript' even though JS is enabled. What firmware should I update to, and is it safe?

why don't you recommend going with a newer firmware version? have a jailbreak (pw5 5.16.8),, but i don't use KOReader.id like to update to a newer release to get the improvements to the amazon UI without losing the jailbreak.

most of the time there's not really an advantage to be gained by updating further. it typically just means more security patches (fewer ways to jailbreak), hardened DRM, more bugs... and if you're already jailbroken, the hotfix will usually be able to persist the jailbreak, but not always. what are the UI features you're wanting to get from updating? is it worth potentially losing your jailbreak?

the only thing tempting me is the slightly better notes/bookmarks system. but if it hurts battery life, im not doing it. otherwise id take the risk, thats what we

r here for haha :P

Well, I don’t think battery life can be any better because of how much more logging they added in 5.17.x and beyond

I don't suppose you have a link for Paperwhite 11th Gen firmwares, please? That site only goes up to 6th Gen.

I'm currently jailbroken on 5.15.1, I was hoping to get to a chromium browser so I can then use the browser on the kindle to login to my calibre-web instance and get it to send me the next book I want to read, anyone with any advice as to what firmware I would have to go to?

Don't confuse the PW6 with the PaperWhite that was in the 6th generation. Generations are counted from the original Kindle, and the iterations are the sequence of releases of a particular model. The PW5 is an 11th gen device.

Hello

I have a Kindle Voyage (7th Generation) Firmware 5.13.6 and I can't get the jailbreak to work.

When I go to http://sanctuary.skyvincent.com I get an error message

You must enable JavaScript ... Press3 dots to enable. According to the device Java is enabled, tried turning java off and back on, but still get the same error. Re-installed the firmware, same result.

If I go to skyvincent/scroll I get a blank page, no matter how long I wait

I've tried other jailbreaks Winterbreak, Winterbreak2 etc, but none of them work. No error message, just same Kindle software when I re-start.

I'm beginning to think Javascript is not working on this device. Is that possible, is there anything I can to to try and fix it?
