If you mean the old version of Kindle for PC, not the new Windows app, then the books are in Documents -> My Kindle Content.

For the new Windows app there's no need to know the location.

It is true that it doesn't use the same folder. OTOH, if you are wanting to remove DRM, the MSIXKFXArchiver is aware of the folder location but saves it's bits and bobs in a directory called Data in the root of a drive.

The default directory is (fill your user name where the <username> is:
Code:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Packages\AMZNKindle.AmazonKindleReadingApp_m1sc522ngdk36\LocalState\Classic\Content
I've seen a couple of reports where the _m1sc522ngdk36 at the end of the AMZNKIndle part has been different.

A quick search showed the entire Midlife Recorder series is available from multiple sites. Given that most of the newer ebooks on 4 sites I checked are pirated editions, the quality is likely to be as good as Kobo/Amazon/etc. supply.

I will note that my main reason for not pirating books is simply that I want the authors to keep writing. Not the purest of moral reasons but it works for me.

It took me one search query to find a currently available shadow library, and another one to find the book. Available as epub. That can be converted into anything you want.

Look, I’m not trying to endorse piracy. I buy (or lease to be specific) all my ebooks. But if I had been unable to liberate all my Amazon ebooks before the deadline, I probably would have just pirated them to get a copy without drm.

That indeed is the original purpose of copyright.

Wanting the authors to get paid so they write more sounds like a pure enough morality.

So, pay the author directly and skip the middlemen.

Even today, connecting with some authors is very hit and miss. Even if you have the author's real name, finding them can take more time and trouble than simply purchasing their books. Then I have one author my spouse loves who writes under at least 7 pen names with their own web pages, social media and email newsletters. For that one, I am not even certain I have their real name or gender. Another author who is exclusive to Amazon even for content that is not in KU has their Amazon web page as their only contact.

Quote:
Hi, whats-your-name!

I downloaded a pirated copy of your ebook from blah-de-blah. Since I am now feeling guilty, can I send you the amount you would have earned from me purchasing it on <webstore of your choice>?

Oh, BTW, I am sorry that Amazon locked you out because your books were available on a pirate site. I hope they restore your account before you lose too much more money.

I don't think Amazon locks authors out because their books are available on pirate sites, not any longer. Considering the vast number of books available on those sites and the fact that most of the currently active authors still seem to have their Amazon accounts.

It still happens once in a while. Recently one author whose newsletter I get mentioned that they and two other authors had been locked out and their books had disappeared from Amazon. After quite a bit of back and forth, it appears that when Amazon's search found several of those authors' books on a couple of newish ebook piracy sites which Amazon's artificial idiocy algorithms had not yet flagged as being pirate sites, they were locked out without any notice.

I just read the posted forum guideline and I did not find a prohibition on advocating piracy. Perhaps I missed it.
Please provide the relevant text and location.
Thank you.
