Drowning by T. J. Newman is $2 at Amazon and Kobo.

Quote:
Flight attendant turned New York Times bestselling author T. J. Newman’s adrenaline-fueled survival thriller about a commercial jetliner that crashes into the ocean and sinks to the bottom with passengers trapped inside—and the extraordinary rescue operation to save them.

Six minutes after takeoff, Flight 1421 crashes into the Pacific Ocean. During the evacuation, an engine explodes and the plane is flooded. Those still alive are forced to close the doors—but it’s too late. The plane sinks to the bottom with twelve passengers trapped inside.

More than two hundred feet below the surface, engineer Will Kent and his eleven-year-old daughter Shannon are waist-deep in water and fighting for their lives.

Their only chance at survival is an elite rescue team on the surface led by professional diver Chris Kent—Shannon’s mother and Will’s soon-to-be ex-wife—who must work together with Will to find a way to save their daughter and rescue the passengers from the sealed airplane, which is now teetering on the edge of an undersea cliff.

There’s not much time. There’s even less air.

With devastating emotional power and heart-stopping suspense, Drowning is an unforgettable thriller about a family’s desperate fight to save themselves and the people trapped with them—against impossible odds.

Something like that happened with Amazon before the Kindle. Amazon sold eBooks. If you needed to download to update the DRM, you could. But when Amazon stopped selling eBooks, you could not download them. So if you needed the DRM updated because the DRM was tied to your existing computer you were screwed. If you changed computers or the system drive, the DRM stopped working.

When Microsoft turn off the LIT servers, no LIT eBook would be able to be read as they LIT eBooks had to first phone home.

Conclave by Robert Harris is £1 in the UK (Kobo, Amazon)
Quote:
Behind the locked doors of the Sistine Chapel, 118 cardinals are meeting in conclave to cast their votes in the world's most secretive election.

They are holy men. But they are ambitious. And they have rivals. Over the next 72 hours, one of them will become the most powerful spiritual figure on earth. Who will it be?

The Evil That Men Do is the third in the Pierre Chambrun series by Hugh Pentecost, which is a pen name for Judson Pentecost Philips, who, per SYKM, won the Grand Master Award from the Mystery Writers of America in 1973. And it's free right now in the US.

I read most or all of the Pierre Chambrun books many many many years ago, and have fond memories of most, especially of the details of running a big hotel. A couple of them I remember as being a bit far-fetched, but overall I liked them all.

And the title of the first book, The Cannibal Who Overate, which is what got me started on the series, is still on my list of best mystery titles. That list is independent of the quality of the mystery itself - it's just based on the title. But in this case, I did end up reading and liking that book and the whole series.

Quote:
A gang of jet-setting slanderers cause havoc at the stately Beaumont Hotel

Under the stern eye of manager Pierre Chambrun, life at the Beaumont runs with the efficiency of a Swiss watch. So reliable is the service at New York's finest hotel that guests could set their timepieces to the movements of its bellhops. But a wrench is about to be thrown into this perfect mechanism—a redhead named Doris Standing.

Standing is queen of the jet set, that army of playboys and party girls who tour the world in search of a good time. Lately, she and her gang have found a vicious kind of fun, exposing the misdeeds—real or imagined—of the rich and powerful. When this cruel young woman checks in to the Beaumont, Chambrun and his press man, Mark Haskell, take note. Because where Standing touches down, good men will be destroyed.

There's a bunch of Tim Sullivan titles for £0.99 ( £0.89 if you're a member) over at Kobo UK.

What's the price of the Omnibus?

(I haven't read any, either, so I'm on the fence with this author.)

99p / 89p, but it does not have any Tim Sullivan

Looks like Vampire stories. I've read a bunch of 19th C. ones and needed brain bleach after Meyer's door-mat Belle. (Was it Belle?). I'll probably not go for it.

I now have to decide if I want to invest my time on the Tim Sullivan titles.

Has anyone read this author's series?

I've only read The Dentist. The story was very good, but I found the description of autism to be annoying. It sometimes felt less like a mystery with a character who has autism, and more like a story about a man with autism who solves mysteries. But I liked it more than I didn't like it!

If you find you like the one, they are now e-pubbed by Open Road/Mysterious Press, which means they go on sale a lot. Enough that I don't post them any more unless they are free, or maybe if they are on sale for $0.99 instead of $1.99, or in a really good deal for an omnibus.

An Untidy Death is the second in the Decluttering series by Simon Brett. It's $0.99/£0.99 at Kindle US/UK. It's a Severn House title, so per the discussion a few days ago (please don't start that up again ), only available at Kindle. So up to you if you take the risk.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GWY334Y6
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0GWY334Y6

Spoiler:
Quote:
When the body of a prospective client is discovered in her burned-out home, declutterer Ellen Curtis is drawn into a baffling investigation where nothing is as it first appears.

“My mother’s going to kill herself . . . That is, if I don’t kill her first.”

When Alexandra Richards approaches professional declutterer Ellen Curtis to ask her to help sort out her mother’s chaotic flat, Ellen gets the impression Alexandra doesn’t like her mother very much. But when Ingrid Richards’ body is discovered in her burned-out home, Alexandra’s exasperated words don’t seem such a joke.

Due to the hazardous state of the victim’s over-cluttered residence, the police are inclined to dismiss her death as an unfortunate accident. Ellen’s not so sure. Could Alexandra’s resentment towards her mother have escalated into outright violence? The more she discovers about the dead woman’s remarkable past, the more convinced Ellen becomes that there’s something decidedly suspicious about her death.

At least she can console herself that clearing out widower Edward Finch’s bungalow will be a straightforward job in comparison. But in this assumption, Ellen couldn’t be more wrong . . .

I desperately need some help decluttering, and just the other day was eyeing a non-fiction book on how to deal with clutter. But I didn't buy it, and this looks like a lot more fun to read. And maybe it can do double-duty and get me inspired IRL too ...
