I'm back from open heart surgery and....
When last I was here, it was April and my Kindle Paperwhite was scheduled for deregistration. Since I was about to get my chest cracked open, I decided I would wait to deal with it until I was up and running around again.
Has anyone developed the fix for the Kindle? Has the evil empire won? ![]() I can go through Rakuten Kobo, but it's just annoying the heck out of me.

Exactly what do you mean by fix? Do you want to remove DRM from your purchased Kindle books? There is a way to do that with the new Windows app. Or do you want to download your books to your old, nonsupported Kindle and read them there? That's no longer possible - you'd have to remove the DRM and sideload them.

Yes, I want to remove the DRM from Kindle books. I have transitioned to Kobo, but there are some authors who only publish through Amazon. After raising several posts here, I had downloaded the Kindle app from Microsoft store, and attempted to run it through Calibre, but no luck on conversion.
I have always used the Android Kindle app on my phone and tablet, but had purchased a paperwhite for easier file transfer. It is now a paperweight. I have no interest in resurrecting it. |

As we cannot give detailed instructions for DRM removal here, you'll need to google it. Some help and newest deDRM plugins can be had from Satsuoni's GitHub site. Old plugins no longer work.
Hint: it's no longer as easy as just adding books from the app folder to calibre. The process is slightly different now. You'll need to run the archiver (bundled with the deDRM plugin) via command line. |
