I jailbroken Colorsoft Signature Edition during Winter Break.
The jailbreak was successful even after updating to 5.18.6.
MRPI and KUAL continue to work after re-installing the hotfix.

As far as I was aware, you can't purchase an ad supported Kindle in Brazil. I'm in Canada and one friend of mine tried to get ads enabled on his Kindle to use Ad Break and the support person (Amazon Canada) said that was not possible for customers not living in the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy or Spain.

For some reason, **if your kindle account is registered to amazon.com, you won't get ads even if you activate them**. However, **it's different if your account is registered to amazon.fr** (for some unknown reason), and after getting your ads you can do Adbreak as usual.

What I did was go to amazon.com and change my region and payment info to an address in France; after that, I went to the "Devices" tab, and then I had a new option to migrate my account to Kindle France. After selecting that option, all my devices showed up in amazon.fr instead of amazon.com. Just to be sure, I also changed my Scribe default language to French. I reboot, and...

*Voilà!*

The option to have ads now appear on the settings. After that, I followed up the guide on kindlemodding.org

I think this is an interesting option for Colorsoft users to try, as I understand that model has a similar problem showing ads. I don't know why this happens, but I have Koreader on my Scribe now.

Following Amazon’s recent decision to complicate the life of my old 6th‑generation Paperwhite running firmware 5.12.2.2, I decided to take a look at KOReader. This thread allowed me to install it easily, whereas the solutions in the main thread didn’t make it possible. Thanks a lot!

I tried to do this today on a PW 5th generation. It all went wrong. First of all

1) I couldn’t fill the storage as the Filler script would not download properly for me. Using windows 11. It downloads as just Filler. I tried adding the ps1 on the end by renaming the file (it does say Windows powershell script under type) but the command prompt (I assume this is powershell) says it’s invalid and doesn’t exist.

I tried to install WinterBreak anyway, without filling storage. It seemed to install okay but I couldn’t get the kindle back into Airplane mode. The three lines which is my way into settings doesn’t do anything.

2) I tried to install the Hotfix anyway but I could not get to the update your kindle option. Pressing the three lines did nothing. I restarted my kindle and had a message saying the update failed.

I haven’t tried again.

Can anyone help explain what’s gone wrong? Thanks

I am contemplating jailbreaking a Kindle Oasis 8th gen that's on 5.8.11 (thanks to an empty folder named update.bin.tmp.partial). Do I need to update to latest firmware (5.16.2.1.1) before using WinterBreak, or will WinterBreak work with 5.8.11?

Also, any thoughts on which is easier: Winterbreak or Winterbreak2?

I jailbroke my two e-readers: Paperwhite 2 (6th Gen) and Paperwhite 6 Signature Edition (12th Gen).
I used Winterbreak. After that, I installed KUAL and MRPI, disabled OTA updates and installed KOReader (on PW6 SE, ;kpm install koreader worked, on PW2 I had to install kindlepw2 version manually). However, I'm not sure about Hotfix - in the Winterbreak tutorial, I followed every step, but there was no mention of installing Hotfix. Is it necessary to be installed? Is it still necessary if I disabled OTA updates? And what exactly does it do?

Hotfix is not required anymore after Winterbreak v2.0.0 was released:

The idea behind jb.sh was to eliminate the hotfix as it was defunct and cumbersome in favour for having the jailbreak simply run curl -L kindlemodding.org/jb.sh | sh
Hosting it online also means that during re-runs of the script it will always be up to date, circumventing any potential countermeasures (to an extent)

Hi,
I have a Paperwhite Gen 10 jailbroken with Winterbreak which was working well until now. It just started having issues and I’m hoping someone can help.
A few days ago I downloaded books from Amazon. I noticed a few came without covers, but they opened. Then today I tried to sync to get a new book I bought, but the Kindle will no longer sync or download new books from Amazon.

When my new book did not show up in library or home screen, I looked for it in the store. I got the message that it was Updating the kindle store experience.
The store correctly showed I owned it already, Tap “Read Now”’ to start reading. I did that and it showed a download screen, but nothing downloaded and eventually I got an error popup that said Error: Something went wrong. This happened twice. I finally gave up.

I reran the Hotfix since it tried to update, but got error message that it was generating core dump file for process KPPMainAPPV2. It showed a web address for https://wiki.corp.lab126.com/mediawi...ore_Dump_Files for instructions, but when I tried to visit it on PC, can’t connect to the server error message.

I restarted the kindle. The dump file showed up, but still no new books.
I was able to run the Hotfix ran without apparent problems. I doublechecked and the firmware has NOT updated, it is still 5.17.1.0.3.

I have been looking for information or solutions, but not finding anything that seems to apply. I am hoping someone here has advice or suggestions so I can download my books, can anyone help?
