If the Kobo and the Pocketbook are activated using the same Adobe ID, you can use the same .acsm file (via calibre/ACSM for the Kobo or Pocketbook, directly on the Pocketbook). My preference is to download using calibre and then sending the book to the ereader with DRM intact since that way, I have a record of having read the book.

For me, I'll download the ePub from the ASCM file and the DRM will be removed. All in calibre.

I prefer not to remove DRM from loans since I don't own them.

Thank you. Tested and it worked as represented (although it reported authentication errors or corrupted files when importing the ADE info). However, after reading this entire thread and the warning about Adobe possibly revoking my ID, I decided to delete the plugin and continue using ADE as the intermediate step with the eventual deDRM into Calibre. Takes an extra 30 seconds.

Again, thank you to the author

You don't need to delete the ASCM Input plugin. It works the same as ADE. In fact, it works better because you don't end up with the ACSM file that you'll need to delete and you won't end up with an extra copy of the ePub in your ADE library.

That may be because it was a new install and AdobeID is now bytebooksID?
New installs need a bytebooks account.

Thank you, @JSWolf. Re-installed and, indeed, it works well.

That's excellent news that it works with ByteBooks.

.acsm files stopped downloading epubs a few days ago, and I finally have time to day to troubleshoot it.

Before I would download a .acsm file to the Calibre Watched folder, and it the file import would trigger DeACSM to do its magic, resulting in a decrypted .epub file in my library.

Now it results in a .ascm file in my library. I verified the plugin says "Authorized with Adobe Id (my id)" and I have these plugin options checked

- Notify ACS server...
- Enable Verbose debug logging

I've exported my account activation data, so that is safe.

My Apps/Plugins
- Calibre 9.11 on MacOS
- DeACSM 0.0.16 ( activated with Adobe ID, debugging turned on)
- DeDRM 10.0.28

What should I do next? Some ideas I have but can't do:

- DeAuthorize and reauthorize the plugin. How would I do this?
- Check the debug logs, but where are the logs located?

Thanks!

Update:

I just installed and tried using Adobe Digital editions to download the book, and I got this error message:

"Activation Server error - code E_ADEPT_RESET_PW_REQUIRED"

Googling that led me to these instructions to enable an alternate account for authorizing ADE. I'll try that.

Update 2 - I have the new Bytebooks account...how do I replace the Adobe ID with the new Bytebooks ID? The DeACSM plugin config screen does not have the equivalent of "logout" or "update credentials" button.

image URLs seem to be broken, here is a screenshot of my "Customize DeACSM" screen in Calibre

Update 3

cmd+shift+d on Mac opens the de-authorize screen. Fixed! I'm having problems creating a bytebooks account, when that is done, I'll update.

Update 4

Migrating my Adobe account to bytebooks didn't work. As in I could login but not authorize. So I made a brand new bytebooks account and authorized it.

Then I re-added an acsm book to Calibre that had failed on previous attempts and
...
...
...
it worked! The account also works in ADE, which I tested as an alternate method of accessing acsm books.

Whew! That was educational. I also wrote a wiki note in Obsidian with all of the instructions from A-Z since it isn't always clear what to do at each step.

Once it works, this plugin is a godsend.

Imgur no longer allows 3rd party access. You need to access the link directly from your browser. OTOH, attaching your image to the message works and will be there long after another site has removed your image.

Great to hear you finally got it working. Since my Adobe ID is an email address from a company that has not existed in 20 years, if I ever want to make any changes, a new ID is going to be my path forward.
