Preparing for the day.
Today is the store's "grand" reopening and the big boss is coming by. We're expecting chaos, not only because it's the reopening, but Wednesdays are the busiest day of the week anyway (new promotions start) and another supermarket in the shopping center closed down last Saturday, so they're hoping to get some of their customers. At least on busy days time usually goes by quickly. Tonight neighbours across the road invited us for drinks and my sister accepted. At least Thursday is my day off, I'm looking forward to just putting about tomorrow. |

Weed whacking before breakfast to avoid the heat - crabgrass absolutely thrives during a heat wave - no water required

And there you are murdering your lawns only chance of looking green...
OTOH, the residents of one of homes neighbouring my complex is very upset. They had run an extension to their downspout to slightly over the property line which results in a rather large wet spot on our property. Someone decided that having them flooding our property was not a good idea so they drove a wooden stopper into the downspout on our side of the property line and ran several screws into the downspout to hold the stopper in place. Fast forward to today when we had some heavy rain and their gutters were overflowing down the sides of their home. The neighbours called the police department to complain about their downspout being blocked and we had a couple of police officers out to investigate. The neighbours were informed that since only the part of the extended downspout on the complex's side of the property line had been touched, there was no illegality involved. OTOH, extending your downspout to flood your neighbours' property is definitely a violation of the city bylaws ("Water from gutters, downspouts or hoses cannot be directed onto neighbouring properties") so the city is getting involved and a bylaw enforcement officer will be stopping by later today or tomorrow. |

You can't kill crabgrass unless you use a blowtorch - on my after dinner walk I spotted many new sprouts already 6" long - they have a week to flourish before I go out again at dawn

My aunt was a fan of manually removing the crabgrass, roots and all using a weed puller. Unless you cook your soil deeply enough to kill the roots, crabgrass will survive.

Finishing loading dinner into the slow cooker. There is a certain temptation to emulate the second poster in this thread's response.

Continuing my attempts to acclimate to the current Death Valley temps outside - the humidity levels dropped so I've just returned from a 105 F walk - got cabin fever and had to get out

For the past several days, I’ve gone for a swim in the morning and then hunkered down. The pool is closed tomorrow and I don’t have a plan for getting out. I should make a very early trip to the beach to beat the holiday crowds and the heat; it may not happen, though, and I don’t have an alternative idea. Might be easier just to force myself up early and hit a local trail. |

21°C and the rain has stopped for now as I'm watching the Saskatchewan Roughriders playing Ottawa Red-Blacks on the telly after the Argentina/Capo Verde game.

Up early on a Saturday (8.30am). We're going to the town center today to run some errands and have lunch. Until that time I'm going to do some cross stitching and reading.

Repleacing the single-glass' windows, within a low-e ones: so as the frame is wood, sanding and giving 'em 3-4 hands of water-based preservative wood stain (within wax); the price of repleacing 2 of them and a door's one within new PVC's would had been the same as repleacing all the 22 panels and the 2 door's ones; also the PVC's preventive won't include low-e panels, but just double-panels; also it won't get in premium aluminuim profiles inside, like this ones that have a pvc layer on top:
Spoiler:
When finished the woodworker would give them a mill groove and install an external gasket around the borders, too. Also have to saw the wood for the winter : :
