I recently finished Peter Hamilton's Commonwealth duology and moved on to his Night's Dawn trilogy. As it's a real doorstopper (the omnibus edition is about 4000-5000 pages), I expect it will take me most of the summer. I'm not a fast reader.

I'm trying to finish Royal Assassin by Robin Hobb, and then I'm (re-, for me)reading Game of Thrones with my fiance. Limiting to a chapter every couple of days so she can keep up. I'm excited.

I would skip Game of Thrones. The series is incomplete and it's possible it may never be completed.

Current plan is 2-3 books from the Morland Dynasty by Cynthia Harrod Eagles, Slow Gods by Claire North and a bunch of magazines such as Asimov. As always, it's a loose plan. Currently binging The Closer on Netflix so giving my crime novels a break.

An interesting milestone is that the number of days folks have been waiting for book 6 is now greater than the number of days it took for all the books 1-5 to come out. |

I stopped waiting for GRRM to finish the books more than a decade ago. And while I loved the first 3 books, I haven't read the 4th and the 5th. There's no point. It's very unlikely he'll ever finish the series; moreover, even if by some miracle he will, it won't probably be particularly good. Clearly he got bored with the series after the 3rd book, but is not brave enough to admit it to all his fans.
I'm not judging him - authors are only human, the quality of their writing can and does vary over the years and writer's block is a real phenomenon. It's best to move on when it's clear no more books will be forthcoming. |

Finished the latest Dungeon Crawler Carl book. Read these back-to-back, with one exception. A fun series, although a little disturbing.
Edit: Oops, the above was supposed to go int the "what are you reading thread". For summer reading, I usually don't change to anything special, but my current plans are: Just finished a Jim Butcher short story: MR Petty. A very enjoyable supernatural noir. Jim Butcher's novella Out Law. Ink Pot Gods by Seanan McGuire. Then some recent fantasy and science fiction award winners (Locus, Nebula, Arthur C Clarke). What are you reading for 2026 summer?
When it arrives in 5 months, I'll let all y'all know The book I'm currently reading IS seasonally apt, though. Woke up to subzero C temperatures this morning, making this passage from Ibn Fadlān and the Land of Darkness (written around 308 AH) feel quite relatable.
