Replacement cable for Kobo Forma

Hardly Nomal & Currys are expensive.

But you want to make sure you get a good quality cable. You don't want the cheaply made cables that are not braided and the end(s) split.

I just use whatever cable is in my big box of USB cables; if it doesn't work I toss it and try the next cable.

I do the same thing. But if I'm buying a cable, it's going to be good quality.

Our previous Kobos were Touches which are old style-SD. Unfortunately, Kobo don't seem to sell OEM cables, and the last time I looked I would have had to import from Australia at vast expense... That seller doesn't seem to have any stock at the moment.

So I seem to be reduced into something from Ebay, but it's knowing which brands are good with Kobo. (If I can find a replacement 32GB Forma, I might go for it, but the only ones on Ebay are 8GB.)

If you have any other micro USB cables I would try/use them.

I have a Kobo Touch and it has a micro USB port, same as a Forma. Interesting that a UK Touch would have a different port then the U.S.

Most of my failed cables had braid. It's a gimmick if the plug cover part isn't done properly.

Some expensive brands are very cheaply made & poor quality.

My UK Kobo Touch had a perfectly standard micro USB port.

All of my ereaders have standard mini, micro or USB-C that is only USB 2.0.


"Good quality" seems to be by the fact it lasts rather than specific brand. Hoco braided cables are worse than CEX branded plain / unbraided.

Apple makes a very good USB-C to USB-C braided cable. I use it with my Libra 2.

The UGREEN cable I linked look to have reinforced ends.

I've had more non-braided cables fail then braided.

I do have those two ones, which still I'm using; though that the Kobo one is very more loosely, while the one from Pocketbook is quite firm (the plated cilinder is just an add-on).

You can use the Pocketbook cable on a Kobo with a MicroUSB connector.

Sadly, it's not turned up and I think the seller may be dodgy. I've had 2 random unpurchased items turn up instead so I've asked for a refund. Quite apart from anything, it was due to arrive by Saturday at the latest and it was only marked as dispatched on Friday.

I'm in the office next week so I might go round the phone shops near the office.

Only shipping to the US and Canada at the moment. Looking at Anker cables on Amazon.co.uk they offer free shipping - but it'll take a month or I pay 3 times the cost of the cable in shipping to get expedited shipping.

At this stage I'm awfully tempted by the 2nd hand 32GB Forma on eBay; it comes with charger & cable.

Very likely am, but the £1 braided cable from Poundland is working. Pretty well all the spare micro USB cables lying round the house aren't braided, and given the hammering the OEM reversible cable has taken over the years I wanted something a bit more substantial.
