@astrangerhere: I wasn't to know about Marjane Satrapi,
Quote:
The public library in here was close for vacation, I'll search something from Tanith Lee this time. The next, 6th chapter from Tower Dungeon will be the latest one, I've enjoied it so far: each volume adds some nice plus note, never boring, nor granted. Then I'll like to search for the remaining chapters from his previous work, "Aposimz", which I'd ceased at the 4th one; from that stories Tsutomu Nihei started to draw within thin and lightly lines, just like "less is more". ^^^^^^^
I've always had a fondness for Tanith Lee's Flat Earth Series. I read the first one - Night's Master - when it came out in the late '70s (I think it was). Those books remind me of a beautiful mix of The Book of the Thousand Nights and One Night [Mardrus and Mathers] combined with the writings of Roger Zelazny and Jack Vance. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, if you love fantasy writing of the highest order. Last edited by Dr. Drib; 06-28-2026 at 09:01 AM. |

Thanks
!Tanith Lee is present on various books from the series I'm reading from the "Libra" publisher; both on its "Saturno" (Saturn) serie, which aims on taking the different genres and flavours of SF, and in the "Slan!" serie that was - around the '70s - onto giving a translation to unpublished SF novels that were mean to become classics. I guess there are at least 3 novels from her onto the "Slan!" and other 3 or 4 onto the "Saturno": in those latter ones, the 4th and the 8th volume were hers (the first one was Leigh Brackett - "The Big Jump"). Well, I haven't found those books the previous drop-in I had at the library, because I was a little shorter on time; while searching though the library may be thinking Tanith was her last name ( ).I've borrowed "Don't bite the Sun" (1976, translated in 1978), "Drinking Sapphire Wine" (1977, translated in 1978); and "Day by Night" (1980, translated in 1981). Thanks again !Edit: also, very nices the original covers, too! Last edited by nana77; 06-29-2026 at 07:17 AM. |

About covers, on "Moebius 1 - Upon a Star", in its postface it's mentioned he did the illustration's ones for Poul Anderson, Roger Zelazny, Robert Heinlein, Robert SIlverberg, and others, between 1964 and 1969; he also did the french cover and illustrations for "The Alchemist" by Coehlo.
Spoiler:
Btw, and I'm still stuck within my coffee and tobacco, but got the meaning for that new definition of "high fantasy", by Tanith Lee: woah, literally. Last edited by nana77; 07-01-2026 at 03:56 AM. Reason: typo |

Next up was New Rock, New Role by Richard Sparks A fantasy with gamers being dragged to a new world from our world. But although fun, their reactions were unbelievable. Then there was Phule's Company by Robert Asprin. I read this back when it was first published. It was fun then and it's fun now. Humorous MilSF. Followed by The Alchemist and the Witch by Christopher Stasheff A short fantasy that, IMO, doesn't quite work. And I'm now reading Out of the Loop by Katie Siegel. A good so far fantasy about a time loop that concentrates on the after-effects on the person involved. |

I finally finished Downbelow station. When the Amazon rating popped up at the end I have it 3 stars, kind of a stretch. As others noted too multi stranded, disjointed at times, and a tad boring to be honest. Mostly a political thriller set in space. The writing style also grated on me, which surprised me given Cherryh is a linguist.
Afterward, i started Code Name Helene by Ariel Lawhon. Writing was a breath of fresh air. Plus it returns me to my favorite genre of WWII historical fiction. |

Finally finished Greenthieves by Alan Dean Foster. It was an ok scifi but I did not love it and he's one of my favorite authors. Moving on to Slow Gods by Claire North.
For listening, finished The Spy Who Came In From the Cold by John Le Carre. Pretty good spy novel. Moving on to The Tangled Thread by Cynthia Harrod Eagles. This is book 10 in the Morland Dynasty. Historical fiction, this one continues during the time of the US Revolutionary War. |
