[Update] 2026-06-28 - Annotations, rendering improvements, iOS preparations

The biggest new thing in this update is annotation support, as well as an improved text selection/dictionary lookup system. The book info page has also gotten a new section that lists bookmarks, annotations and lookups for the book. Other than that, mostly bug fixes and usability improvements.

The recently updated web page now includes some more screenshots and a video showcasing features added in this update.

Full change list:
  • Added support for different types of annotations, including colors and comments.
  • Added new pages for presenting bookmarks, annotations and lookups from the book info page.
  • Added 'forced' text size setting, which is meant to be used on books where the styling does not respect the text size on the root element.
  • Improved the text selection and dictionary lookup flow.
  • Fixed rendering of books with problematic image filenames.
  • Fixed context menu button on library items being very hard to hit.
  • Fixed context menu in the library missing some items.
  • Fixed deletion of selected books when browsing a remote book source not working properly.
  • Fixed statusbar coloring sometimes disappearing.
  • Fixed an issue where cover image loading could sometimes crash the app.
  • Fixed an issue where 'dead' popups could sometimes block new popups from opening.
  • Fixed two issues that could cause the reader to open the wrong page when opening a previously read book.
  • Now ignores built-in container margins in the book style by default.

When you do your sample images, can you please make them actually look good to show that the program can display ePub properly?

As it is now, it has too much margin on the top/bottom and left/right. Plus the paragraph spaces do not look good.

Can you have less top/bottom margin? In the first and second images, there is too much space at the bottom of the screen and in the second image there is too much space at the top.

Can you have less left/right margins?

One other issue is that all sans-serif is not a good look.

Sure thing! Personally I like having some margins, but if you want them gone, you can easily use the margin settings to remove them. You can also disable the status panels if you want the text to completely fill the screen.

That looks much better except for the extra space between paragraphs and the sans-serif font.

Any idea when you'll be working on being able to increase the font weight?

Good! It's also possible to adjust the paragraph spacing and the font, of course. The previous example used the book style, this one has overridden the spacing and font.

It is also possible to adjust the font weight, but I interpreted your question in the other thread as if you want to add additional weights to fonts that only have some weights implemented -- is that right, or did you just ask for a weight picker like the one shown in the attachment here?

(If the more complex variant, what would be the best way to implement such a feature? I would need to match the added file to the font face of the book. By file name? By letting the user pick? Or something else?)
