Tiny text on epubs after updating calibre

Hi,

I use calibre mainly to convert plain text fanfic files to epubs and then send those to my Kobo Clara 2E. After updating calibre to 9.9 suddenly the text on all new epubs is tiny and the cover images are larger than they used to be (I use the same images on most of my epubs), old epubs on my Kobo look okay. As far as I can see, all of my calibre settings are still the same and I just can't figure out what has changed or how to fix it. Tried to search the forums but couldn't find anything similar.

Any help trying to figure out how to get the text size fixed would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Possibly the files are now kepub and were epub before. When you access the Kobo driver settings in calibre, do you have "Use Kobo viewer for epub books" checked?

Stupid question but, where would I find that setting in calibre? Sorry, I'm definitely not tech-savvy.

If you have the Kobo Utilities plugin installed, right-click on the icon and select Configure driver. If you don't have the plugin installed, go to Preferences -> Plugins -> Device interface -> KoboTouch and click on Customize plugin. The Kobo Viewer setting is on the second tab (Collections, covers & uploads).

An even better solution (IMHO) is to apply the patch to have the ePub and KePub fonts sizes be the same.

Found it, thanks. Yes, "Use Kobo viewer for epub books" is checked (don't have Kobo Utilities plugin installed).

You should install it; It does a lot for your Kobo including backing up the database, tracking your reading positions being able to update metadata/ToC if need be, and more.

Uncheck it. That should fix your font problem.

I will second this. The utilities and the extended edition are fantastic tools to maintain the health of your Kobo's library as well as add features (you can even sync the clock to your PC ), clean out old unused cover images

Sirtel: Thank you. Unfortunately, it won't allow me to uncheck it, I get an error message "ERROR: Kobo configuration: Invalid collection column names:
Collection column names that don't exist in the library: Tags, Series, #Genre"

Can you post a screenshot of that tab where the Kobo viewer setting is?

Thanks. I assume you don't use automatic collections for your Kobo? You can delete those 3 entries (Tags, Series, Genre) if not. Then you should be able to uncheck the Kobo viewer option.
