New Kindle day
The kids got me a Gen 11 Matcha green and its very nice but it came with no instructions whatsoever, talk about minimalist packaging!
I've got nothing on it yet, just lots of Amazon fiction recommendations (no thanks) Its the ad free version so I won't get plagued every 5 minutes to buy stuff. But I want to know a couple of things. First what format(s) does it read? And can I transfer content from my dying Kobo Touch to it? The books are all from Gutenberg so I've not lost any money so its no great shakes if I lose them. I don't have access to a pc so everything is done via my phone. Last edited by Cyclops; Yesterday at 03:46 AM. Reason: Colossal image thumbnailed. You could use Send to Kindle via email to send your Kobo DRM free ePubs to your Kindle Basic.
You might also want to edit your message and convert the overly large image into an attachment. |

FWIW, the ads from Amazon are never popups while reading or anything invasive like that. The ads would have been on the lockscreen when you aren't using it. Both ad supported and not have the recommendations on the Home tab. That's it. Any other ads you might see would be from the author/publisher and embedded into their own book.

Got it sorted in the end. I realised the problem was that my partner had ordered it while logged into her account, so the device was registered to her account! I simply de-registered it and signed in with my Amazon account and bingo. It works.
A question remains though. Which formats does it read? I've sent PDFs across, that worked a treat (I can use it for sheet music, which is great!) Also I have some d'loaded ebooks on my old Kobo touch but how do I get them to my kindle without a PC? I only have my mobile phone. Last edited by Cyclops; Yesterday at 03:50 AM. |

It reads MOBI, AZW3 and KFX. AFAIK you can use Send to Kindle on a smartphone to send your epubs to your Kindle (they'll be auto-converted).

Send to Kindle has multiple methods. The StK website tells you all of the supported formats right there. The specific formats supported by StK are *not* the same as what the Kindle itself supports, due to the conversion. If you end up copying over USB then the formats that work are different and are handled differently, plus current Kindles use MTP for file transfer instead of presenting like a plain storage drive.

Your problem would appear to be getting your Kobo device ebooks onto your phone. Easy with the Kobo app, for those you got from Kobo, if DRM-Free, but not so easy for those from Project Gutenberg, without a PC. You'd need to browse the Project Gutenberg site and send them to your Kindle device, via that option or download onto your phone and then use Send To Kindle.
