Clara BW losing charge when idle

Recently I went to charge my Kobo Clara BW since it had gotten down to about 23% charge. I left it on the charging overnight and the next day it seemed fine. I didn't read on it for a day or so but when I went to use it next it had lost its entire charge.

I thought it was just a glitch, charged it up to about 50% or so so that I could use it and after I was done, I put it on the charger again to fully charge it up. The next morning, it was reading 100% and I thought all was good. Put it in it's sleeve and didn't use it for a couple of days and tonight when I took it out to use it the e-reader had lost its charge again.

I have it on the charger right now but I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas. I always make sure to put it in sleep mode when not using it so I'm not sure what's happening. And I never had any issues before this, and haven't changed anything on my end (haven't even loaded up any new books recently).

Anyone with any insights as to what could be going on?

If Wifi and/or Bluetooth is on, turn them off.

No, they're both off.

I did some reading around the interwebs last night and it seems like certain books can have this affect with Kobo readers. One of the easiest solves some people are finding is to go back to My Books before putting it into sleep mode and not leaving it within the book itself. I'm trying that out right now to see if it solves the issue.

One thing to do is make sure all of you eBooks pass epubcheck before they go on your Kobo.

Never heard of epubcheck before so that sent me down a rabbit hole of looking it up and how to get it running on my PC!

Got it working however, and the current book I'm reading didn't show any errors, which is good news.

So far leaving it on My Books when in sleep mode instead of in the actual book hasn't seemed to drop the battery percentage at all so I'm keeping my fingers crossed this solved the problem.

I've never had a problem with my Libra 2 losing power when left in sleep mode with a book open. But the books I have on my Libra 2 have been checked with epubcheck and the built-in error checker in the calibre editor. So I know they have no structural errors. Also, most books I read I read as ePub and not KePub.

This is the first time I've had any issues, but searching around online last night indicated I wasn't the only one. There were various solves put out there, but this seemed to be the easiest one to try out so I went with this one first. I've had it off the charger since last night and the battery hasn't seemed to drop any, so at least in this instance the fix appears to be working.

Hopefully this is just a one-off with this particular book, and the problem doesn't keep happening in the future.

Thanks. I sometimes have this problem on my Elipsa, but I had no idea what might be causing it. I'll try going back to My Books before I close the cover and see if that helps, although it only seems to happen randomly, so it may take some time to verify.

Yeah, I figured it was easier to try this rather than some of the other solutions people were proposing (resetting the reader, messing around with the file structure, etc.). This is the first time it's happened to me as well, and from what I've read it appears to only occur randomly. If this method solves the issue I'll be more than satisfied.

Do you have a sleep cover? My official Libra 2 sleep cover case was misaligned, causing sleep issues, which drained the battery. I convinced Kobo to replace it for me, and the new one stopped the battery drain.

Yeah, it might be the sleep cover. It hasn't been a big problem so far, just random battery drain once in a while.
