How to find e-books in a specific language?

Hello!

I bought an e-reader to my wife for her birthday. She is a Turkish citizen and likes to read books alot – something rare even among educated Turks. I first decided to buy tolino, but learned that there are hardly any e-books in Turkish for it. So, I returned the e-book and bought after searching in the Web a Kobo. But it seems to be impossible to filter always the searched books by a language or languages: I mean that there is no account setting that I want to read English books only, say. We live in Austria, and the found books were in German and in English. We searched for books of classical Turkish writers and World Literature in Turkish, but could hardly find any.

We also tried the D&R and Idefix Web sites, taking support from Microsoft's Copilot, but it was disappointing. As we could only find a few novels (criminal novels, thrillers), we decided to return the Kobo next week.

Is there anybody who had a similar experience? Why does Kobo ignore the command "language:Turkish" (or "dil:Türkçe") in the search field?

Thanks for any answers.

You can change the country to Turkey and then create an account. You'll want to use a Turkish address, Then your wife can find books to read.

In some countries local publishers and writers don't generally upload their ebooks to large international platforms like Kobo or Amazon, but sell their work only on local platforms and in local bookstores. Do Turkish writers and publishers even sell in the Kobo store?

I rard that Kobo is popular in Turkey. Does Kobo has a kind of app that adds useful filters like a language filter so that only books in that language are enlisted?

I've found no problem with the web-site. The following is a search in the Austrian store with Turkish as the selected language for the books and (for my sake) the site menus, etc. in English.

https://www.kobo.com/at/en/search?query=&fclanguages=tr

Play around with the filters and the menu at the top.

Or if you want to check out the store try:

https://www.kobo.com/at/tr

(Note that I would advise you to check out a book preview before buying a book so that you can be sure that the book is published in Turkish.)

And, even if there are not enough Turkish books in the Kobo store, that's not a reason to return your Kobo. A Kobo device can read any book in the epub format, not just those Kobo sells. You can buy your books elsewhere and sideload them to your Kobo.

Did you go to the Turkish Kobo store like I mentioned previously to have a look at the eBooks?

The Tolino also reads ePub. So there was actually no reason to return it.
