Just noticed today that the plugin is working again now, so I came here to see if anyone else noticed. Looks like there was a workaround posted above, but I never tried that. It just started working again with the normal 1.8.5 version. Can anyone confirm?

Im wondering if the "download metadata in bulk" can cause problems with Goodreads in the future. Im only asking because I know that there is a limit with the Goodreads Sync that makes it 50 items to upload at once.

I noticed on reddit people indicating that they are attempting to get metadata downloads for 2000 books at once and then they get error messages.

I just wonder if people doing this will somehow end up getting Goodreads to block the plugin or change something.

Almost all the metadata/cover/whatever download sites I am aware now use tools such as Cloudflare and will treat batch downloads as being bot attacks resulting in them failing. Bulk downloads from Goodreads will indeed fail since they use Amazon's AWS WAF Bot Control.

One local genius complained that when he attempted to use calibre's Amazon plugin to bulk download metadata, it was crapping out every 4-5 books and he then had to wait 15 minutes or longer before he could try again. When I asked for more details, he had downloaded a library of ~80,000 books from a pirate/torrent site but now wanted proper covers and metadata. Somehow, he couldn't seem to grasp why Amazon wouldn't want to send him gigabytes of data. But then he also seemed to believe that downloading gigabytes of copyright books was also legal. That's only if you are a corporation training AI...
