I have the latest Calibre version and 10.0.23 of the DeDRM plugin installed but Kindle Legacy, as they're now calling K4PC 2.9.1 is giving me KFX-zip files every time I try downloading a book and importing it to Calibre. Weird thing is, if I go to the My Kindle Content folder that I backed up from my older K4PC installation there's no trouble importing a book as KFX and the DeDRM works on it. Not sure where the thing that goes wrong is happening or why. Any ideas? I am totally stumped and sorry to say, the tutorials I have found aren't that helpful since I need words, not pictures I can barely see or videos with no sound. ::sigh:: Bad eyesight sucks. :-(

But not for those that want nothing to do with KFX. And, for the record, linux -> anything from M$ is NOT an upgrade.

You need the windows store app as 2.9.1 will be dead on or after June 30.

Are you setting up and running KFXArchiver291.exe and importing the file in the Archiver directory after running the executable?

They've not disabled the Windows 10 version of the Windows store app yet to my knowledge. I can't imagine they released a version that works with Windows 10, only to kill it a few weeks later. But I could be wrong. In the meantime, I see no reason people would be enticed into upgrading to Windows 11 just for this. Especially if the DRM removal with the Windows 10 version of the app continues to work.

Okay, just found that. Now how do I set it up? And after running which executable must I do it? Apologies but I am a very confused little featherhead right now.

Sorry but I've reached the limit of what I feel is appropriate to post about DRM removal on MobileRead. I would suggest that you visit the GitHub page for DeDRM to ask for more help. Check the Discussions item.

Windows 10 to Windows 11 is arguably NOT an upgrade, either.

Yes it is. Especially when you can remove the DRM from Kindle eBooks.

Here is the solution to that problem.
  1. Go here to find the link. https://store.rg-adguard.net/
  2. Next go to the Microsoft Store and find the app you want. Find the share button in the app's listing. Click the button and select copy link.
  3. Paste the link into the website.
  4. Click the check mark.
  5. Then you'll see a list of URLs. You can pick the link that ends in .msixbundke.

I can remove DRM from Kindle books with the original Windows 10 Kindle App (v1.05230) using the latest prelease from Sats github site. What is my incentive to update to Windows 11 right now?

Note: This is all strictly for experimentation and documentation. I have no need of DRM removal. But for those who might have installed the initial v1.015230 of the Windows Kindle app on Windows 10, I can attest to the fact that the latest tools from Sats are currently working in that scenario.

Not a good enough reason from my perspective. I'm running several softwares that I legitimately purchased, but are now long outdated, though definitely IN USE constantly. Every one of them is now subscription based.

And I don't know that an OS update wouldn't muck things up for one or more of them. I mean, I expect eventually, they'll be toast. But until they are BURNT toast, I'm going to run these softwares. They do what I need.

ABBYY Finereader costs $100 yearly. I'm not sure what Adobe Photoshop and Acrobat cost these days. Whatever it is, I'm not feeling ready to pay it. If I have to eventually get a new machine and run this one separately and mostly offline, I will, though it would be a struggle to find a place for another machine. Finereader is essential to me making further ebooks.

Meanwhile, if Amazon doesn't want my money for ebooks, fine by me. There are other places to get my reading, most of which comes from the library anyway.

I uninstalled my old Kindle for PC that wasn't working anymore yesterday and I doubt I'll miss it much.
