Entirely possible but sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

I wonder what will happen to the kindles that no longer get updates if they can’t block the DRM through the hack. Perhaps they will release a new update for them.

If I can get my PW3 sorted, it's not on outdated firmware. So maybe it will work. However, what Amazon can do is only allow the new DRM. However, if I had any books on the PW3 with the previous DRM, would they still be readable?

It is rare for them to remove methods, so they should remain readable. (in fact, I am not aware of them ever removing the method in higher versions, they just stop using it). Anything new will have different DRM, and it may try to update it, i guess?

I have an older firmware. So at worst case it would be to jailbreak, install the older firmware and if need be install the current firmware. And have the OTA block of course.

There is some doubt as to whether the OTA block will keep the diagnostic exploit from downloading the new DRM. OTOH, it should be possible though painful to remove it on a jailbroken Kindle.

Yes it should be possible. But what happens if the Kindle has eBooks with the previous DRM, would they still work?

Didn't you post a very similar question elsewhere? Perhaps you may find someone at Lab123 who knows whether the books that were already downloaded would have their DRM updated on the fly. Otherwise the answer will be a definite I dunno.

Previous downloads on my Oasis 2 are fine. It's is just new downloads that have the new DRM. My Paperwhite 2 still hasn't gotten the new DRM.

I'm hoping one of my older devices is able to avoid the new DRM for a few days. I'm quite happy buying my books from Kobo, but my husband wants a book being released Tuesday from Amazon so that his "group series" puts it with the rest of them. I have warned him if my old Kindle doesn't work he's paying for an extra copy of it from Kobo so I can have my backed up version as it's a book I want to read as well.
