Yesterday I bought a book on Amazon published in August 2025. I tried to open it on my Kindle for PC in Windows but I was forced to update to Kindle for PC 2.8 version as previous Kindle 2.4 version was not allowing for the download.
Then I dragged and dropped the .azw file in Calibre and it gave me a the encrypted unusable KFX-ZIP.
All these years, I would have got an epub or any other format if the DeDRM plugin used to succeed. I even removed DRMs succesfully for other books from Amazon that I bought

When I dragged and dropped the kfx file of the book from my PW device in calibre, it was able to remove the drm but I got a black and white KFX version of the book that I was able to convert to epub also successfully .

Wanting to get the DRM free coloured version of the book, I then installed K4A 4.17.0.146 in windows subsystem for android on my Windows 11. But it didn't allow the download for the book.

In the latest Kindle for Android, I could only get multiple KFX files but no prc file in the program files folder of Kindle. All those kfx files didn't result in any readable document while attempting to open them in calibre.

I searched for map_data_storage.db file but I couldn't find anywhere. Can anyone suggest what should I do now?

I'm trying to understand the purpose of Frida here. I can't use WSA since I'm on Linux, but I'm trying with a rooted version of Waydroid and then I want to replicate your process and see if I can get it working.

Sorry if I'm being really dense here...

Frida is needed to attach to the process and inject the javascript into it. Python script on host connects to it. Recent tests show that this approach does not work on device due to antitamper, but does work on some emulators due to, I believe, arm-x86 translation layer which confuses the antitamper. I do not know if Waydroid would work. If it does not, try the executable approach (still needs Frida to dump your DSN/secret). Read the top of the file(s) for brief outline, ask for detailed explanations on github or PM here, not in public forums.

Trying not to bump this thread but I am having issues finding a good guide. I purchased a few AZ books and I would just like to transfer them to my kobo. I run linux and have a windows PC at home, but prefer not to use it for personal things. Does the emulator workaround still work? If so, will it work on linux as well?

My pms are open if anyone would like to keep the thing more private.

Maybe, maybe not. We'll have to wait and see how complicated things get.

If you are unable to remove the DRM from Amazon eBooks, then the solution is to stop buying eBooks from Amazon.

I know you do. Nothing wrong with that. Unfortunately Amazon wants to control what you can do with the books you buy from them. Unless someone figures out how to make them honest again you just have to count your losses and not buy from them again. So far Kobo is good for me.

The WSA(my) workaround still works, though is a pain to explain. Alternative worked on rooted Android device last time I checked. As for whether it would work on Linux, i dunno? Try using it and tell us here.

Today I got this message
"Book not available on this app version

This version of Kindle is no longer supported. To download books please update your device to Android OS version 9.0+ and install the latest version of Kindle for Android. You can also read on Kindle for Web (https://read.amazon.com)."

Was using this LD player method for months without any problem? Should downloading latest apk version on top of existing version works? Or is there any alternative solutions?

Sort of a cross-post. Sorry.
I used Sat's method for K4PC 2.8.2 (? Not the new MS version), but I think one book is the old azw/mobi format which means it can't be processed. If I drag it into Calibre, it shows as azw, but can't be opened.

Would someone please remind me how I can process this book? Does the BS method still work at all? If so, I think I'll have to go thru the whole installation thing again!

The k4i file produced by Sats' method is for the older format books. Ask over at the GitHub if you need more details.

I would love to, but most of the authors I read are amazon exclusive. There are very few who release epubs before they publish on amazon.

Can you provide the link for the github? I'd like to make sure I am on the correct one before posting my questions.
