isnt it windows 11 only?

i tried running it on win11 on an unsupported pc (aka an older cpu and no tpm). i can login but the main window just immediately closes after that

That's because you are on Windows 11 on unsupported hardware. The new K4PC MS Store edition needs TPM.

I download four books today to my Oasis 10th Gen, added the kindle to Calibre and two gave me KFX-Zip. the other two were just KFX. I removed the downloads from my kindle, did a restart then downloaded them again. I got the same thing, two KFX and two KFX-ZIP.

That might have been me in another thread. People were stressing at one time that the new Kindle app was only going to support Windows 11 and higher. My mistake was conflating concerns about TPM with Windows 11's requirement to have secure boot and TPM 2.0 enabled for the new app to work. I don't have TPM enabled in the bios of my Windows 10 machine, so if the Kindle app uses TPM, then it must be supplying its own implementation. Either that, or it only uses TPM if it's available.

Oddly, the image you attached shows the Paperwhite 11th gen (AKA PW5) as being at firmware 5.19.2. Which is what @texasnightowl posted.

I've been using K4PC on my desktop. I don't remember the version off the top of my head, though. Does this mean that, as the end of this month, I will no longer be able to download books from Amazon at all??? How will we be able to get books onto out computers?

There will be a version of K4PC offered by the Microsoft Store. So far on my computer, it seems to work with some glitches.

I guess I'm just worried about if we will still be able to get the books we want onto the devices we want in the manner we have in the past. I load my books into my preferred ebook reader in the order I want to read them in which I've never been able to do with Kindle whether on my PC or on my phone.

I guess we will all have to wait and see how things will work out. I just hate the unknown and the possibility of losing what we currently have.
