Kobo Buttons and device design

Maybe the time has come to split the wheat from the chaff and make a thread JUST TO DISCUSS buttons and device design and to stop adding to other threads.

Yes there were other terms I almost used rather than adding but decided to avoid editorializing.

Love physical buttons. In my opinion, the KLC has he best placement and size.

Mine's an older Kobo Clara, no buttons other than the power. Using the screen to navigate is great. least I think it s LOL. No false presses or page turns.

Thats so funny, I actually have more false presses and page turns with the screen than the actual buttons.

LOL, different strokes and all that.
Probably the different way each person holds the reader in use. Me, I've usually got my left hand holding it by the top left and bottom right corner. Or by pinching the bottom bezel when I feel adventurous LOL.

I love the buttons. I find holding the reader by the wedge and using the buttons to turn pages very comfortable.

I would not buy an ereader without buttons. I've used them since the forma and would not go back to no buttons.

I tend to sleep wearing cotton gloves (with lots of hand cream) so the buttons work well for me rather than using a touchscreen when reading in bed.

I wish the Kobo firmware would let me enable both buttons turn to the next page in the options somewhere. It would be a small change that would make a difference. I miss that patch and I'm not changing firmware until I absolutely have to.

As I said in the thread that this got spun out of

Take the Libra reduce the wedge by something between 1/3 and 1/2 of its current width
done by moving the circuit board for it to the main body of the Libra probably just integrated into the main board. This would make the Libra 2 markedly slimmer, and likely reduce the weight by an appreciable amount.

For my hands, the bezels on the Sage, Kobo Libra Colour, etc. are about the right width. My fat thumb sits between the two buttons with maybe 3mm of clearance between the screen and the edge of my thumb. This makes it easy for me to move my thumb minimally to use a button while holding the ereader in one hand.

There was this one, that was kinda funny, from a portable console (2.7-inch) made in conjunction within the Swedish firm Teenage Engineering:
Quote:
The Playdate features a standard control pad and two input buttons, as well as an analogue crank built into the right side of the device. Described as a “flip-out rotational controller,” it does not, in fact, power the unit. Instead, it’s made to be used with a few of the system’s games as a unique control method.
