Undoubtedly there’s a spectrum from that to not at all. One which exists outside of MR as well and probably in not so dissimilar percentages. I think folks here might be surprised how rampant piracy is* even among the grandma and grandpa age bracket.

Most of the people I know who sideload tend to sideload non-Kobo content and sync Kobo content.

From my observations, students and seniors are the most prolific consumers of pirated books. Many seniors remember the era of Napster and bittorrents when piracy was more or less a way of life for many music/video consumers and students are generally poorer and faced with very expensive textbooks so piracy becomes very tempting.

I sideload all content whether acquired from Kobo or not. Since I manage everything in Calibre, it allows me to keep control of metadata; especially series. The number of books in a series with different series names or missing series data is amazing.

I side load everything I buy from Kobo. I first edit it and then side load.

That's me. I have the epubs in calibre, but I read the kepubs on the Kobo. I sideload nothing to my Kindle. I sideload everything that's on my Nook.

Well, there was that 1984 thing some years back, and there is allegedly a lot of infringing work on amazon today.

No, loads of pirated content on Amazon Kindle. Some on Kobo too, but Amazon is far worse.

I've met people that almost exclusively deliberately use pirated content, but most people don't knowingly do it.

I'm thinking back a few years ago of two instances of illegal [Pirated] titles on Amazon that produced a discussion here on Mobileread:

Roger Zelazny - Some of the Amber titles. Or perhaps it was an omnibus edition.

Mary Stewart - The Arthurian Saga.

Bootleg copies of Raymond Chandler works have been sold by Amazon for years, for another example.

Still no official date on the launch, other than "in June". There were some rumblings about it being June 6th based on screenshot with Kobo Support, but I think we've all learned that the Tier 1 help desk information should be taken with a grain of salt. That date has come and gone.

I assume we'll get a firmware update either on or slightly before the launch to support the new functionality.
