A stylus is only for handwriting or sketching. It's worse than a mouse for navigation and both are worse than a touch screen and especially well placed buttons for reading.

You might use a dumb stylus if wearing heavy gloves or lacking hands.

A stylus is mostly fine for navigation on my Kobos (I use a cheap, dumb stylus). It avoids fingerprints, which is why I use it. But for page turning it's far too clumsy a solution.

NO! The purpose of using a stylus is to avoid fingerprints. I'm pretty sure the Thing has fingerprints.
