Weird spaceing issue after Quotation mark

This is a converted epub->kepub file. Tested multiple books. After „ there is some space sometimes.

Looks good if I use left aligned text but like this when it is justified.

Tried text-rendering: optimizeLegibility; and text-rendering: geometricPrecision;

This is still happening for optimizeLegibility.

Not for geometricPrecision but in this case there are some more stranger cases. Like when text is hyphenated a see rows like.

That's, what, a thinspace? It's clearly some sort of space, not straight runon. Does a space appear in the epub itself at this position? (Presumably not -- that would be exceptionally strange.)

I kind of doubt there is a space in the actual text; this looks like fairly standard KEPUB rendering jank to me. If a book uses three periods for an ellipsis, the renderer will often decide to space them out like . . . as part of making the text justified. KEPUB just... doesn't handle justification very well in some situations.

No space in the epub or the kepub file. It also looks good if I just open the kepub with calibre. So this is some Kobo engine issue. Like also Nickel can't handle nbsp too.

Maybe I just keep using Koreader instead.

Did you try OptimizeSpeed?

As I read this disabled completely the ligatures and kerning which I don't want to.

Yes, but you no longer have these weird spaces.

Another option is to use epub instead of kepub.

There's no way to have a fully justified kepub with kerning and ligatures without an occasional spacing issue.

So this is happening with English text also? I thought this is some edge case for hungarian language only.

Yes, it's happening with English text as well. That's why I personally use OptimizeSpeed with kepubs.

If I read as KePub, I want kerning, ligatures, hyphenation, and full justified. If there is any odd spacing, I just put up with it. It's usually not too bad.

Whereas I prefer normal spacing and couldn't care less about kerning or ligatures. Still, even without them epub spacing is better than kepub spacing. The smaller the screen, the more conspicuous the uneven kepub spacing is. It's not that bad on my Sage, but on my Libra 2 I read epubs for this reason.

Of course I don't use hyphenation, which exacerbates the problem.

Try ChareInk7SP. I find I get a lot less hyphens with the smaller space then the regular space.
