I'm not… Windows 10, calibre 9.8.

Have you run Library Check and corrected any 'errors'?

Can you post the search expression as shown in the search box, and images of what you have in the three Preferences->Searching tabs.

Did I miss your reply on the results of the
Quality check plugin: Check Metadata: check author sort???

Do you have any Grouped searches configured Preferences: Searching" Grouped Searches (tab) and Similar books (tab)?

I have a column that was for when the name on the cover was a Pen Name for the real authors name in this column.

BTW Neither Linux Mint or W10 is having sort issues on a clean (quality checked) Library.
