This is laughable. So to use the buttons I’d have to shift how I’m holding the ereader. Nope hard pass absolutely terrible placement. Mind you I have long fingers and I’d have to shift my grip to activate the buttons with your design those with average or small hands would suffer even more.

Regarding “separate buttons” … I mean, that’s an extra thing to hold, requiring another hand; if you hold your reader in your hand and want to use “external buttons” (page turner), you need to hold that in the other hand; if you hold your reader with both hands, then, well, most regular humans don’t really have three hands.
With Bluetooth page turners (the only ones that won’t have a clip-on thingy attached to the reader), there’s also the additional battery drain. Tangentially related - I received my 8bitdo Micro yesterday and successfully set it up and connected to my Boox Go 10.3. It works, but between having to hold it, and needing to have Bluetooth on (which had an immediately noticeable effect on the battery charge), it’s definitely mostly going to be an option for me for the purpose I bought it for - to use when it’s cold enough at home that I sit with my hands (which get ice cold very easily) under a warm fleece throw. With an e-reader that has buttons, that’s not been a problem as I’ve been able to press the button through the throw; with the Go 10.3, touch-screen only, it’s absolutely been a problem (it’s fairly cold at home here right now). A larger screen mitigates the issue in that I don’t need to move my hand out from under the blanket quite as often, but even so. So in this situation, I think the 8bitdo page turner is going to come in quite handy as I can keep that in my hand under the fleece throw. |

We still have central heating on when the temperature outside drops under a certain level (it's automatic). So it's not cold in my ordinary, old Mustamäe apartment.

Having to have buttons under your fingers does not feel good. It makes the Reader a very poor design.

On the sides (like K4NT) or under the screen, both would be fine by me. Or just leave the current design as it is, with a wide bezel.

In my case my prescription had drifted way off... but the font was ludicrous in any case. (Bifocals seem to be useful largely for drivers, and I don't drive. Reading plus distance is good enough for me -- until one of them drifts.)

Since we’re designing for the majority the buttons stay relatively where they are on the model. |

It’s been automatic in the spring the last few years (unlike the switch-on in the autumn) but this year, seems that it was simply turned off. Brrr. To get back to buttons, I’d also be OK with either the way they are placed on the Oasis / Boox Go 7 / Libra / Sage design, or thin buttons on the sides (like on the old Kindle Keyboard and I assume Kindle 4). The PocketBook Era design looks OK too. I’d definitely want them on the side(s) though, not under the screen (or worse, above it). I guess the “under the screen” placement looks okayish with Xteink X4 as it’s small enough that I wouldn’t need to twist my thumb into an unnatural position to press it, but it’s hard to know without having held one. |

I'm also fine within the Forma's buttons, excepts the bar stick has slapped out.
(imho) it wouldn't be bad even if there will be a single button, that levers upward and downward, and eventually might rotate or click also.. like: ![]() So having just to push it within the thumb or index fingers. Last edited by nana77; 05-27-2026 at 05:08 PM. Reason: orthography |

Why all the hate against buttons? I prefer my Kobo with physical buttons. I think the KLC is perfect for me. Easy to hold and easy to move around with. The lip is perfect when reading while commuting.
I get people have preferences and dislike buttons but can we stop being aggressive to everything we simply dislike? |

I like the design of the Kobo Aura H2O and the Amazon PW5/PW6. Slim bezels and no buttons. However, if it has to have buttons, I really good place to put the buttons so they are in nobody's way when holding the Reader is under the screen. This is where Sony put the buttons on the T1. It's not a hate for buttons. It's just that if they aren't placed properly, then they are in the way. Last edited by JSWolf; 05-28-2026 at 03:52 PM. |
