I hope you're correct that the device will entirely disappear from my account and the book licenses will be released and not be forever stuck on my K5. |

I don’t know for certain but it seems likely to me that they left the information about the unsupported devices on the website temporarily in order to make their status clear to their owners. Since they didn’t leave any way to remove them I think that Amazon will be doing that for us eventually.

However, I was reminded I needed to change what is now my default device. Amazon support have in the past, recovered (restored) an ebook license for me when their software had failed to do so. |

As of now, my Keyboard is available to use for the trade-in discount. I am mildly curious to see if/when that's no longer the case. Moot at the moment as the EOL deal is marginally better, but it could be a factor down the line -- especially if someone's waiting for their Kindle of choice to go on sale, first.

(Since it can't download purchased books anymore, I have no use for this K4BNT. Its only purpose was to provide me with deDRM-able KF8 files.) |

While I could take advantage of the 20% for trading in my Keyboard Kindle, that's never gonna happen.
For starters, it means too much to me, and secondly I don't want Amazon to profit from bad behavior. Thirdly, if I was going to spend money on a new e-ink device, it would be a Kobo one. However, I am not spending there until they do a color 10" device. As tempted as I am to have a color device, I cannot justify the expense of getting one in place of my black & white Libra H20, just to see some color images, when it still works fine. There needs to be a bigger benefit, literally. My general preference, is to have two e-ink readers for a store, but there has to be enough point of difference. So really, I've never understood the lack of 10" color e-ink devices by Kobo, especially as other providers sell them. I've been waiting to buy one for quite some time. Sure, I understand that standard size color e-ink devices would be attractive to new potential customers, and older customers needing an update, and those with plenty of money to splash around, but Kobo have ignored most of their older customers, by not providing a 10" color device. Though I suspect many just use a 10" tablet like me for graphic novels, magazines etc. I would rather use an e-ink device though, especially as it would become my spare backup as well. |

Personally I have no interest whatsoever either in 10" or a color device, let alone the combination of both. What I want is a new 7-8" black and white device, which Kobo also refuses to release. My Sage and Libra 2 will both be 5 years old by the end of the year and who knows how long they're going to last.

I've read through most of this thread and others but with the abundance of great info shared, I unfortunately, have lost the thread in my head of what my options are now that my old kindle is no longer supported.
So I am wondering if I get a new kindle with the promotion, will I be able to use it transfer newer published books from Amazon to calibre just as I was doing with my now defunct kindle - meaning, can I download it to the kindle then connect via USB and still move the KFX (or whatever) file to calibre and let calibre do it's conversion magic? If I can't do that with a new kindle... what steps will I need to follow? (I still have an older version of K4PC that I am successfully using for older published books - I know that may be going away but a worry for another day). Thanks for help in clarifying for this old brain! |

99% No. There is a slim possibility you get a new device with a firmware old enough that you could jailbreak it (if you order it right so it doesn't get updated before you receive it) and if you follow the jailbreak steps perfectly. But there is also the possibility you get one with firmware already too new or you mess up the jailbreak. (Any firmware from 5.18.5 and after cannot be dedrmed.)

The PC app will become unsupported and likely unusable at the end of June, however a new Windows 11 app is supposed to be available before then. I am guessing that it will be usable for DRM removal within a short time of its release. |

I've noticed that K4PC 1.17 is no longer able to download any books now too.
