The buttons absolutely make the ereader easier to hold by adding better resistance versus the otherwise smooth surface. Again this is physics and you lose. You’d have an argument if the buttons were significantly larger to the point they exceed the width of your thumb or were significantly smaller such that it became a struggle to feel them. However in both those cases they would have ceased being good at their primary job on the device. You don’t need to like using them but their benefits outstrip a cover every day of the week without trying. Your argument about the case not adding bulk or weight also fails against basic physics. You’re adding mass which by its very nature at this scale requires adding weight and bulk. Unless you’re aware of a case made of light though the heat such a thing might add would probably be prohibitive. |

If I had to hold onto a spot on the Reader that had buttons, I'd not be able to hold it as tight and thus more risk of dropping it. The cover allows a more comfortable holding of the Reader. |

You are flogging a nonexistent horse, while demanding fervently that everyone else agree with your preferences because they are perfect and inviolable, even though to everyone who's actually owned an ereader with buttons they appear to be grounded in nothing but ignorance. |

The problem with hyperbole is that you can easily make a fool out of yourself. You may find that position comfortable but I for example hate that feeling of constant, even if it's slight, pressure on my thumb. I leave my thumb beside the button. And I don't think I'm alone with that. So can everyone just please chill out? You do you and that's just fine but man, this discussion is tedious.

Maybe the button haters need to 3d print a simple cover for the buttons that would prevent them from being pressed

I don't want buttons under my fingers. I'm perfectly happy swiping to change the page. Everyone else is saying that we should have buttons in the way with no case and that's not a good idea. Not everyone wants the same thing. However, a case is to make the Reader easier to hold and to give it some protection. The buttons are an extra because we have the touch screen. Kobo sells buttons. So if the Reader had no buttons, you can still get buttons. |

If Kobo makes a 7" and 8" BW Reader with buttons not in the way of holding it, then we'll have two winners instead of (IMHO) two losers (with color).

An interesting idea. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to design two new Kobo readers that will displease the least number of people.
