I suspect that the current situation is temporary and that these devices will entirely disappear from the website eventually.
When I try to remove the book from the device itself, nothing happens. Then I connected it to USB and deleted the file, but of course, since my Kindle no longer connects to Amazon, it still shows up as on my device when I check my Content on Amazon's website.

I hope you're correct that the device will entirely disappear from my account and the book licenses will be released and not be forever stuck on my K5.

I don’t know for certain but it seems likely to me that they left the information about the unsupported devices on the website temporarily in order to make their status clear to their owners. Since they didn’t leave any way to remove them I think that Amazon will be doing that for us eventually.

.
There is also no option on the website for me to de-register my old device either, which would have been a quick way to recover ebook licenses, albeit a risky method.

However, I was reminded I needed to change what is now my default device.

Amazon support have in the past, recovered (restored) an ebook license for me when their software had failed to do so.

As of now, my Keyboard is available to use for the trade-in discount. I am mildly curious to see if/when that's no longer the case. Moot at the moment as the EOL deal is marginally better, but it could be a factor down the line -- especially if someone's waiting for their Kindle of choice to go on sale, first.

I *almost* pulled the trigger using the EOL deal on a Paperwhite during the Mother's Day sale but, dang it, I just don't get on well with the form factor. If it's cheaper for Father's Day...maybe. Weirdly, I can use the coupon for refurbs of the latest Kindle Basic, but not Paperwhite refurbs. Sadly it won't be long until a 6" device is too small for my tired, old eyes.

Feeling a little concerned about the options when my Oasis 3 dies.

Interesting. I checked a few hours ago and was still unable to connect, but I'll keep checking for curiosity's sake in case something changes.

(Since it can't download purchased books anymore, I have no use for this K4BNT. Its only purpose was to provide me with deDRM-able KF8 files.)
