Okay, regardless of whether this post is useless or not … I just bought book 8 of Matt Dinniman’s Dungeon Crawler Carl series, which, I believe, is an Amazon exclusive (and should probably at this point be considered big enough to matter) and while it didn’t say so on the description before buying, once I looked at my books in Content & Devices, there was the option to download in other formats and when I did so, I got an epub file.

I know Dungeon Crawler Carl is a pretty popular series right now - I don’t know about the previous books (I’ve read the first two via Libby through my local library, but Libby doesn’t have the others yet) but perhaps those would be available as DRM-free epubs as well then.

You do realize that you just described pretty much every thread in the Deals section, right?

Just because information comes in a format that doesn't work for you doesn't mean collecting the information is useless or that it won't work for others.

This thread so far seems like a startingly hostile reaction to a pretty innocuous and reasonable suggestion. It would have been easy to the same things in a polite manner.

A wiki page has been started, so who is going to keep it updated? I don't have a wiki account here, and I guess most other members don't either.
This will barely gain traction for a short period, then die quickly.

Posts in the deals threads are time-limited. Deals come and go, and it's only the recent posts that are relevant.

Books that currently download as ePubs from Amazon are most unlikely to change to not allowing downloads, or downloading in a different format.

So a wiki page is the most appropriate form for what I still think is a pointless task - there are too many. Any such list will be missing most of the books that could be on it. It won't have many false positives, but it'll have vast numbers of false negatives.

People seem to have really strange definitions of hostile and polite these days. I've called no one names. I've attacked no one. I've simply declared my opinions on why I think such a thread would be useless. If that's hostile, then clearly there can be no disagreements on MobileRead without hostilities. So noted.
