The new procedure requires a jailbreak, installation of additional software, and a different process with more steps than the old one. That is likely to be the new normal for most Kindles going forward.

As far as I know a jailbreak is currently possible on Kindles running firmware 5.18.6 or below. Hopefully newer jailbreaks will become available over time, but usually not for the latest firmware. So if you have a Kindle with newer firmware and would like to eventually jailbreak it you should investigate methods for blocking firmware updates.

I’ve just tried the most recent method, which uses KUAL and is linked to (Sats’ GitHub) in a post above - I have a jailbroken Oasis 2 on firmware 5.16.2.1.1 - with several Amazon-bought books downloaded to the device today, and it seems to have worked. So at least there’s that.

(I don’t expect to be buying more books from Amazon really but on the off chance there’s an Amazon exclusive I really want to read, it’s handy to still have a working device for this!)

Yes, I tried Send-to-Kindle via email and app. It does not work for me. So, yes, I can say unequivocally that I can no longer connect to Amazon at all. YMMV

It was only a matter of time before they closed all paths for the old kindles. Least you can still sideload.

Do you have only the one Kindle on your account? Just wondering if that's the difference between your situation of being completely disconnected and those of us who at least temporarily have some connection still.

I have 4 registered Kindles. Are you suggesting they cut off my K5 because I have 3 other registered eink Kindles?

I doubt that matters. I have 12 registered Kindles of which four are now unsupported.

There may be other factors involved such as your Amazon region.

That’s what I assumed would happen anyway. I left no books on my two devices at all. Any books I load will be sideloaded.

I just tried it on my Original Kindle Touch and I am still able to download docs that were in the cloud. (not books bought from Amazon, though...haven't been able to do that since the 20th of May.)

No, exactly the opposite. I was wondering if someone only having one that is now cut off would be the difference. I have 3. One of which is a Kindle Touch, but it has yet to be completely cut off. So only Amazon knows why.
