How Many Fonts
I just went through the "Recommend me some fonts" thread and found many great fonts to add to my Kindles.
That made me curious as to how many fonts do most folks have on their Kindles. Please enlighten me! |

None, as I don't use Kindles.
![]() As to my Kobos, I have about 25 sideloaded fonts on them. But I mostly use just one or two. The rest were loaded for the fun of trying them out. |

When I read, I do not consciously see the printed words. Consequentially I do not care what font my books use. I know my wife thinks I am weird.

Funny you brought this up right now because I was planning on hiding a bunch of custom fonts.
When a number of people recommend a font I would download it and put it on my Kindles and have accumulated about two dozen. Instead of removing them from my Kindles I am going to place each one in its own subfolder inside the font folder. That keeps them on the Kindle but doesn’t show as a font selection choice. If I later decide I want to use any of those fonts again the files just need to be moved out of the subfolder. To answer your question, there are two custom fonts I am keeping active and I will give the others a quick look before storing them away. I found this study to be immensely helpful: Towards Individuated Reading Experiences: Different Fonts Increase Reading Speed for Different Individuals https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3502222#d1e1133 Last edited by Canis_lupus; 05-24-2026 at 09:11 PM. |

many decades ago when I took High school Print shop, the rule of thumb was not more than 6 faces in a publication.
(no order)

I have a couple of Kindles, but have pretty much given up on them in favour of Kobos.
As for fonts on them, I've sideloaded about four. That's in addition to the preloaded ones, of course. In practice, I almost never use more than one: Georgia. I find that easy and comfortable to read, and that's all I really care about. By all means try new (to you) fonts. But once you've found a font that works for you, there's really no need for any more. |
