eBooks on Amazon downloadable as ePub
Let's start a list of eBooks on Amazon that can be downloaded as ePub. That way if anyone wants to buy any of these eBooks, they'll know they can be easily downloaded and read wherever you prefer.

![]() And I thought that everyone was boycotting Amazon due to the only reason they stopped store downloads for old Kindles was for DRM reason. |

FWIU, it's a very limited list of only a few books from a few publishers and, like everything Amazon has done recently, it is an abject failure; perhaps intentionally so (in this case) since they've gone to great lengths to bury a book's epub availability deep within the description.
My guess is that this was done for antitrust reasons; so they can claim that their bookstore isn't solely a vertical integration with their hardware. OR maybe someone high up at Amazon said "Hey, shouldn't we be selling content for other devices, as well?" This half-hearted attempt could be the line-folks pushing back; saying "we tried; it didn't work" (when they did everything they could to sabotage it.) Either way, I'm not going to lift one finger to help MAGA Billionaire Bezos sell more books. So, no, let's not do that. I suppose I should be more empathetic towards him, though, given the thing that he has to wake up to each morning: Imagine having the billions to buy whatever joy you wanted in life ... and ending up with that as a trophy wife. Eesh. |

Books that are DRM-free (at the publisher's request) at Amazon are likely to be DRM-free most everywhere they're sold. So if EPUB is what you're ultimately after, why go through Amazon to get one in the first place? Wouldn't it be less of a hassle to just buy the DRM-free book from an epub retailer?
I mean, lets face it: the epub offering from Amazon is just a gimmick so they can point to it and say they're not forcing their extra layer of KFX encryption onto the content creator's who wish for their offerings to be encryption free. Last edited by DiapDealer; 05-23-2026 at 07:08 AM. |

There is no point to this thread as any DRM free books (Amazon epubs) will be easily available elsewhere. |

Likely only a few people are boycotting Amazon. The KFX only cutoff of older devices is as much about surveillance and control, not just DRM. Hence some tablets included. |

I took a walk on the dark side just yesterday, the very first day my heritage device was obsoleted, and bought a Kindle book. I plan to read it on a Kindle.

I disagree that this thread is useless, partly because it is very interesting to me, and bit more urgently because I quit using ebooks.com and kobo.com over a year ago because their web storefronts became too user hostile for me and google and apple are not the tiniest bit under consideration for me. I do snag a humble bundle from time to time.
It might be a long time before there is a good chance of finding a book via this thread, but no one really knows what books are out there and people contributing to this thread is a way to help find out. Do the people pronouncing that "this thread is useless" really want to join the ranks of those that think that everyone is required to share only their opinions and values? (I think JohnF's first post is at least slightly tongue-in-cheek".) |

How could the thread possibly be curated as to be useful? Just a bunch of posts with different books/authors would be a nightmare to use. And it would only get worse as it gets longer. When Jon gets bored with constantly editing the first post, who (and how) would someone take over?

At some point it would probably be good to collect the information in a wiki page. Not much point in creating the page until there is something to put in it.

I will be boycotting Amazon once there is no easy method of removing their DRM. I'm not going to buy a Kindle and jailbreak it, and there is no way to know before buying if the epub download is available or not. But I have doubts this thread will be useful in the long run - there will be just too many posts and too many books to look them all up. Or will every book be provided with a synopsis as well as the title and author?
Maybe some commercial solution will find a way around future Kindle DRM developments, like Epubor. If they do and the price is reasonable, I might use that. Now I do feel dirty.
