Before I try to jailbreak my PW3, I'm going to try the fill up the space hack to see if I can avoid the DRM update.

OK - some good for some of us!

I have successfully downgraded my Paperwhite 6th Gen to 5.11.2 (using the link mentioned above in this thread) and I have been able to import kfx files again into calibre with DRM stripping an conversion to epub all working beautifully!

I did not have to factory reset again after the downgrade (though, of course, I applied the hotfix on kindlemodding.org), but I did need to delete all existing books on the kindle and redownload anything I wanted to copy to calibre.

This makes sense anyway as the existing books were probably the latest version of kfx with unbreakable (so far) DRM, but the kindle seems to be downloading the most appropriate version of kfx which stillwork with DeDRM.

I've only tested with one book so far, but it works so I have no reason to believe it won't work with others - but I will report back if it doesn't.

Please report back if it works or not. It would be good to know either way. Thanks for your report.

Have successfully imported another 21 books into calibre so it's definitely working.

I assume this will work for anyone running on 5.12.2 - although it should give others hope that downgrading might work for them.

Thank you for the info. So downgrading the firmware could be a solution until Amazon prevents the old DRM from working.

Wow, this has really become "something" in terms of trying to stay ahead of Amazon's restrictions regarding their purchased and Unlimited books. My ancient non-touch screen Kindle that I used for years to move copies from Amazon Unlimited to my Calibre Libraries (for my use only, not distribution) came to an end on May 21 with my final downloads on May 20. When I saw the depths and complexities many here have gone to in continuing "the good fight", I simply decided to use the Kindle Android app on my Lenovo Tablet One for "Unlimited" downloads and read the rest of my sideloaded books (other sources) on my P78 Pro. A less than elegant solution and one that allows Amazon to (temporarily) win the battle of not allowing me to make a copy for my own use. However, with Amazon's ability to quickly change parameters in what they do to continue denied access and with what will likely be ongoing "retirement" of more Kindle generations, I am very reluctant to continue to purchase older models and implement solutions that may now be rapidly thwarted. My solution is somewhat awkward in now having to maintain easy access for two readers but it does work (for actual reading purposes only). I applaud the efforts here but I wonder if it has become a losing battle regarding time invested and cost?

I am not the one reporting numbers... Apparently they were running older FW, or did not number kindle correctly? I believe the report was "11th gen with 5.16.2.1.1"

It should. Do tell me if it does not. PW3 does not have reports as of yet, in either direction.
It looks like there are other confirmations already, but I can also confirm the Satsuoni tool worked on a PW2 on firmware 5.12.2.2 after a jailbreak.

I didn’t downgrade or lose any of the content already on my kindle.

That's good news. So there's hope for my PW3.

Depends. For me, the easiest solution going forward will probably be not buying any more books from Amazon. Fortunately my reading interests vary enough that I'm not dependent on a handful of genres/subgenres where most books are only available from Amazon, and Kindle Unlimited is not available in my country anyway. Besides, I've already amassed enough Amazon exclusive books to last me for a hundred years even if I read nothing else. They're all residing in my calibre library, cleaned and disinfected.

My solution going forward is to see if I can get my PW3 such that I can download and remove the DRM. If that means jailbreaking, then I'll give it a go.

Since I jailbroke my Oasis 2 a week ago, I decided to try the new method, and it certainly seems to be working. :-)

I’m on firmware 5.16.2.1.1.

I don’t really plan to be buying books from Amazon on a regular basis (I’ve largely moved to Kobo for purchases and in all honesty I really have enough books amassed to last me a lifetime anyway, but still, newer books sometimes tempt me!) but it’s good to have something to fall back to if there’s some Amazon exclusive at any point that I for whatever reason need/want to buy from Amazon.

And it’s good to have a use still for my good old Oasis 2 (beyond reading, but its battery is so weak now that it barely lasts through one not particularly thick novel).
