No idea personally as it’s not yet available in the UK but I’m watching the US reviews and they are good. I have a very old kindle I am hoping to trade in for one when it releases in the UK, plus my existing Scribe to sell.

Keep the very old Kindle unless it's a K1, K2, or DX. The very old Kindle will help greatly with being able to remove DRM from Kindle eBooks. The new Kindle will be 100% useless.

I think this video might be interesting, as it shows how in real the specs differs from whats' being wrote on paper's specs: A Surprising Mix of Good and Bad: PocketBook Color Note Review
The device uses Kaleido 3 within mobius screen. Last edited by nana77; 12-22-2025 at 02:48 AM. |

If the problem was what kind of software would had ran Gallery 3 the screen, it's not impossible they would find something. Also the 8" size, within side buttons, within that colours is something surely lacking, in general. Not to mention the no compromizes between colours, and a device that might be fine even for b/w. Also - but imho again - the price range for a 8" might be more generally affordable (the Color Note is like at 600$). The Inkpad One wasn't annunced much early, iirc again. |

I have regretted my expensive foray into color e-readers because imo kaleido3 is just not a good technology without a frontlight and if the latter is required, an ipad etc. is more usable, viable, and cost effective; the poor color ppi of kaleido is another huge disadvantage. The gallery displays on the remarkable are much better imo, from my experience with a rm paper pro, but they are pricey - one day if I feel more comfortable spending money, I will also get a rm paper pro move as a more portable ereader. Edit: if you want to see if kaleido based ereaders are right for you, I recommend checking them out in person at a store - everyone's eyes are different and my old eyes no longer appreciate the dim kaleido displays.

I'd tried reading on a Wacom tablet I've found time ago, used, it's freaking great but honestly, even if the colours are wonderful (also 2k), 13" (well... maybe a little weighted within its 1,5 kg
) ... that's not its real main purpose (still great, anyway). As for the ones I see, trying to understand dedrm etcetera, to read something bought from - e.g. - a Kobo store... I would still, again, stuck within this one: I'm not saying it as for spamming, but rather for myself ( ).What I'd thought is that on those kind of devices there is the availability to use Kindle app or the Kobo one, or Google Play Books, from Google Play app store. While having an integrated Adobe feature, I guess it would be easy to download the books and reading them externally from the apps. *saying this because watching some used ones, not at its fully price - ofc. |

I just got a Penstar eNote Pro from Amazon. Considerably cheaper than the Scribe Colorsoft, comes with 128 gig of storage, its own magnetic cover, stylus, Kindle app already installed, works with epub out of the box (although it had done some odd word breaks at the right margin), and although it doesn't have Google Play there is a list of available APKs you can use to load FireFox, KOReader and other things. So far I'm enjoying it. Takes a little while to start up (probably because of the 128 gb) but once it's on it's reasonably responsive. Battery life is way better than my iPad, but that's a low bar.
