It seems that Adobe Digital Editions is passing off sign-ins or selling off part of itself to some business called ByteBooks (Wipro). Existing ADE sign-ins are said to continue working but new installs/registrations will require some re-signing-in silliness. Their summary at the end of the above page: * This is a one-time sign-in change. * If Adobe Digital Editions is already working for you, just continue reading as usual. * If you are asked to sign in again, create a ByteBooks account using the same email address you previously used for your Adobe ID. * Your eBooks.com purchases are not being removed or cancelled. Editorial: It seems that ebooks.com is trying their best to make it seem like this change, which they probably had no part in soliciting, will be a nothing-burger but it doesn't seem that way to me at the moment. Maybe I am reading too much into all this but I don't imagine this change will benefit future ebook buyers one bit and is probably a LCP-like premise to lock down ebooks further. I still don't know what this will do to e-readers, old and new, that somehow fail to integrate with this new scheme. But maybe one of you reading this at some point has a better perspective on this than I do at the moment. Edit: read through this forum and I guess the sale of ADEPT to Wipro is fairly old news: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...0&postcount=19 . Last edited by ab78727; 05-19-2026 at 04:12 AM. Will it affect deacsm plugin (and others)?
I think it will eventually affect other sellers such as kobo - any seller that uses Adobe ID I imagine. Last edited by Martinoptic; 05-19-2026 at 04:30 AM. |

This sounds like one of those things that is confusing until the need for a change appears somewhere.
I have Adobe Digital Editions installed on my PC and a bunch of devices signed in with that so I expect that for now, not much will change in that sense, but since I de-DRM (with deACSM) all my purchased books as a matter of course, I’m definitely going to keep an eye on any developments... |

I'm wondering if/how this will affect ePub books obtained through lending libraries. I've never purchased anything through Adobe, but I often download ACSM files from libraries.

It sounds like as long as you have an existing functional ADE authorisation, you don't need to do anything. If you try to authorise a new device to redeem ACSM files, then you may need to create a ByteBooks account to do that, as your ADE credentials won't work for future authorisations.

Many thanks to ebooks.com for this notification, though. Naturally there's not been a peep from Adobe. |

Sorry for any confusion. I’ve had the deDRM tools installed for so many years that I just take that bit for granted.

The solution is to remove the DRM from your ePub eBooks and then when the time comes, create a new account with a current email.
It's reasons like this why I stopped using ISP email because if I ever switch ISPs, I could lose access to that email. So I prefer email addresses that I won't lose access to. |
