Firmware Update Kindle 5.19.4 software is available

I've also been seeing a bunch of posts on reddit saying that:

1) uncollected collection has disappeared on iOS app so you can't read or see any books that aren't in a collection

2) the clock is no longer in sync on kindles.

Yes the uncollected collection disappeared today, which is awkward as it’s the only collection audiobooks are in on the kindle app.

Go to More and do Sync now. It fixed issues with Audible items that I was seeing.

I don't know what you mean by Uncollected bing 'the only collection audiobooks are in', that's never been the case, unless it was a recent regression. And I can see them in Collections now.

But yes, there is no Uncollected category now. Not much of an issue for me as Collections are not very important for me.

To the Good, ALL | DOWLOADED toggle (which hasn't worked correctly for a couple of years) is gone and replaced with Download filter (like current Kindles).

LOL. I also have 5.19.4 on my Scribe 2022. No problems so far, but I also only use some functions of the scribe. Mainly reading e-books.

They even fixed the 100% read (books wouldn't automatically be flagged as read) bug, which had been bugging me for so long.

It's the second faulty firmware I installed, and they removed it again. What do they do at Amazon?

This is actually still bugged for mobi/azw3 manga/comics, looks like normal books and comics are treated differently.

For manga, in 5.19.3 it was stuck at 0%, In 5.19.4 it will show the percent but not mark as read at 100%

I just checked, for the Kindle Paperwhite (12th Generation) - 2024 Release, clicking on the “Download Software Update” link yields the following prompt:

Do you want to download “update_kindle_all_new_paperwhite_12th_5.19.4.bin” ?

So has the 5.19.4 update really been removed? Or is it really the 5.19.3.0.1 update .bin and the prompt hasn’t been updated yet? Or is it really the 5.19.3.0.1 update .bin and the downloaded file name hasn’t been changed back?

I did verify the the downloaded file name is indeed, “update_kindle_all_new_paperwhite_12th_5.19.4 .bin”

Either way, it’s confusing!

I was just browsing the Kindle firmware page on Amazon Canada and it seems that 5.19.4 is still available. OTOH, I looked at the Kindle firmware page on Amazon.com and 5.19.4 is missing.

edit: Noticed that amazon.ca has 5.19.4 available and amazon.com does not. Even more confusing, on amazon.com, clicking the download link for the Scribe 2022 5.19.3.0.1 firmware, gives a 5.19.4 download as do the other links that the Amazon Canada page shows as being updated to 5.19.4.

On the Kindle iOS app Audiobooks show in the uncollected collection. I can,filter for Audiobooks but that only gives me half of my Audiobooks, the half that whisper synced.. I have over 200 audiobooks that are not whisper synced and now I can longer see them with the Kindle app. We have never been able to put Audiobooks into collections in the Kindle app. This is not a disaster for me as I don’t need to use the Kindle app for Audiobooks, I’ll use the Audible app but it’s still wrong. On a Kindle device. I can see 414 audiobooks in the uncollected collection. On the iOS Kindle app when I filter for Audiobooks I can only see 213.

I wonder if Amazon pulling 5.19.4 is indeed because they messed it up. The font margins have been inverted: Caecilia used to have a bottom margin that left quite a large space, while Bookerly had a much smaller bottom margin. Now with 5.19.4 it's the exact opposite.

No. The Kindle app will only list books, and not audiobooks by themselves (without companions). The Audiobook filter shows you the books with audiobook companions, not all of your Audible titles.

Kindles will display and play all of your audiobooks. There the Audiobook filter will display books with audiobook companions and standalone audiobooks.

So you have 213 books with audiobook companions, and 201 audiobooks without ebook companions.

But, and I use the word but. Before the Uncollected Collection was removed I could see all 414 audiobooks on the kindle app. For 95% of them I do have the ebook it’s just the publisher has changed so the audio isn’t whispersynced. Now I can’t see the non whispersynced ones. Removing the Uncollected Collection was a bad move.

I think Uncollected will come back, and was an unintended regression (something they seem to be doing a bit of lately).

For what it’s worth, I still don’t think it has ever been possible to download and listen to standalone audiobooks with the Kindle app for iOS. Amazon wants you to continue to listen to those with the Audible app, so you get specific recommendations for further purchases or listening.

I wish it were not so, as I find the Audible app very annoying to sift through all of the recommendations and appeals to subscribe when all I want to do is focus on listening to an audiobook already purchased.

They changed it from 5.19.4 to 5.19.4.0.1
Perhaps that fixed the bugs mentioned in this thread.

Looks like someone found the cause of infinite log upload battery drain, it's related to Adblock dns. blocking a certain amazon domain causes infinite retries.
